Yeah that has been floating around for a while but because of the 6.0 issues it has really gain momentum. I don't see them bouncing out of the contract with international anytime soon...too big of an investment.

All of this plus as said in another post above the Cummins makes its power lower in the rpm band where you need it, and that's the reason the big rig diesels are inline 6s. I would strongly suggest you get the 5.9L cummins as the new 6.7 gets much worse fuel mileage, and the 5.9L has tons of aftermarket mods for it.

I have seen 5.9s with 1000-1200+hp and 2000+ torque and they're still getting 17-20mpg on the highway. 500hp/1000+torque is very doable without breaking your bank account. The Cummins is far more capable of making big hp than the Powerstroke. Twin turbos on the 6.4 Powerjoke and it makes 350hp?? Please.

Yes the 47-48RE dodge trannies are the weak link but there are inexpensive fixes for them, or you could go with the 6speed manual and get really great mileage. Mine gets over 23mpg at 65mph.

Go with the Cummins you'll never look back.

Any V-8 diesel is a converted gas engine. The Cummins is a TRUE diesel engine, its inline, The CUMMINS IS THE LONGEST LASTING, BEST DIESEL ENGINE MADE that is put in pickup trucks by far!! Its not even close. Like the ole saying goes,"90 percent of FORD trucks are still on the road today, the other 10 percent made it home!!!" Just my .02

Ok I guess I am the devils advocate here. the cummins motor is fantastic. Great power and pulls like crazy. The dodge truck though is about 5 years behind the time. Wait let me put my fire suite on before all the flaming starts.

The idea truck for me would be the Ford F250 4X4 with the 5.9 cummins and the Allison 1000 out of the Duramax trucks. I have owned 2 of the Duramax's. An lb7 305hp motor and the lbz 365hp motor. Both ran great, both had plenty of power, both cost big $$$. This is why I am in a 99 Cummins.. i still wanted a diesel but did not want to pay $40k for one..

I don't know what chevy forum yo uare on but if you think you might want to consider a duramax I would suggest GM-Diesel.com Information, and discussion, related to General Motors line of diesel engines, including the new Duramax, and other diesels in general. or the sister site to this one duramaxforums.com

Both of these sites have good information and the guys there are willing to help just like the ones here. I personaly would not buy a Ford unless I can get it in my configuration. I would buy another duramax in a heartbeat <----- No pun intended.

I actually debated on getting a 07 Powerstroke as a friend of mine has a 06 F250 King Ranch with one and I really liked it when I would drive it. Had lots of power and I loved the interior. However, when I went and test drove the other two, I loved the dodge. Although rated at less hp and tq, there was a notable difference in how the truck had more grunt to it. The duramax would get up and go and was super fast feeling but it didn't have that low end grunt like the cummins. I had never owned a diesel pickup before and as far as brand loyalty would go, I had always had Chevy/GMC trucks. You should have seen the guys face at the dealership (they had all three - ford, dodge, and chevy) when I told him that I liked the dodge better. He said no one had ever driven all three and came back and said they liked the dodge better. The chevy and ford do, without a doubt, have a better interior as the dodge is quite dated. But when it came down to it, the dodge with the cummins (5.9) won hands down so that's what I went with. My friend with the powerstroke absolutely loves the way my truck drives, sounds, and pulls. Now I seriously doubt he'd go out and buy one (he is extremely loyal to Ford) but he gets a kick out of driving mine. Now with all that said...I think you should go with dodge...I've been extremely happy with mine. However, it's up to you and what you think suits your needs best. Go out and drive the ford and the dodge and see what you think you like best. I don't think the powerstroke is a bad engine I just think the cummins is better. Happy hunting

Cummins - I6 - 7 Main Bearings for 6 Cylinders
Power Stroke - V8 - 5 Main Bearings for 8 Cylinders

Which engine do you think is more bulletproof?

My last dodge has 220,000 on the odometer with only a fuel pump replaced. Never a tranny issue, and it did pleny of towing. On the other hand, my friend has a 05 6.0 Powerstroke for three months and half of that has been in the shop. It's had three or four new injectors, two turbos, and a few other smaller odds and ends. Also, at work, we have an 06 6.0, and it is on its third turbo in th first 10,000 miles. The 7.3's were excellent, but the 6.0's have always been terrible. As far as the dodge truck itself, it doesn't have as good of a reputation, but we've farmed with them and always had fewer problems than ford or chevy. Just my 2 cents worth.

One thing Ford has that I'm using now is a system called Oasis. Some one on that forum has access to it and with VIN numbers is able to call up any maintenance that has been performed at a Ford dealership. Does anyone know if Dodge has anything like this?

you will want to put bleach in your eyes and pencils in your ears if you buy a ford. doesnt matter which one, they all suck. i honestly dont know how people can drive & work on them. the cummins is the best motor out there, from either working on it, power upgrades, towing. its the best all around motor.

well everyone knows the cummins is top dog in diesels, but there is more to a truck than a motor.. Ride and appearnce are major factors also.
