Do you need an exhaust brake?

How long are the grades? How slow are you needing to go? How much are you using the service brakes now? Do you use them enough to make them hot? If you are feeling a little uneasy about any of these questions then the answer is yes. Better safe than sorry.

You can get by without one.........but you'll definitely want one. Best mod I've done to my truck, hands down.

not to get off subject but i'm going to assume you guys use your tranny and regular brakes to aide in slowing down?

I've never been in a truck with an exhaust brake, but i know just shifting my tranny from OD to 2nd makes a HUGE difference in downhill speeds. I don't even have to use my brakes. Of course that is with just my truck, not towing.

Heck i can even feel a difference if i just lock out OD and let it stay in 3rd

well, whereas doing that is similar to taking your foot off the gas in a gasser, an exhaust brake is like using your foot brakes!
