What kind of toolbox should i get

Im looking to buy a saddle tool box (also known as a crossover). i would appreciate any recommendations, brands where to buy or whatever. Im located in sacramento if you have a specific dealer you like.

the one i like is the weather guard because it has side locks, i dont want to be leaning over my truck bed to unlock my tool box. Also they make black and that is the only color i find acceptable, i hate chrome with a passion. Another feature i like is that it is 24'' deep with gives 15.1 cubic feet of storage space. I also like how it goes straight down and does not bottle neck (in my mind if im going to loose 2 feet of bed space i want as much of that in my tool box). I also want a single lid

Reason i dont just go out and buy a weather guard is they are very pricey. Like $ 700+ for the one i like, and thats not including any accessories.

So what would you guys recommend?

thanks,
marc

UWS makes a nice toolbox

UWS - Truck Accessories

Have had one in my last two trucks, very solid and many sizes are available.

they might make nice tool boxes but it looks like their latches are in the truck bed and i dont want that. if i was 6'4 that would work i guess but im not that tall lol

dont see a black option (not really wanting to pay for a box to be powder coated black) and their latches

actually i found a guy here in denver with a used weatherguard for sale that i might pick up... i will just have to have it rekeyed and then sand it down and paint it black i guess

WEATHERGUARD!!!

Im kicking myself for not buying one of these 10 years ago when I bought my first box I know they are high dollar but they are top quality!!

I found this sucker on Craigslist for $100 the kid didnt know what he had! I spent another $100 on rhino liner to keep my tooks free from the aluminum chalk, and added a custom can holder that works awesome!

(old pics... its full of tools now)

(has both latches now...)

I have been itching to buy a new one at TSC since they are 20% off but Ill wait till summer

get a steel one not aluminum. the aluminum has a oil in the metal that will seap onto everything in your box turning it lt gray. also, on the weatherguard, i would get the low profile. their wide box is a big box and takes up alot of your back window viewing area

cool thanks for the info. Honestly i cant see much out of my rear mirror anyway. Most of the time my truck is driven my rock crawler is behind it. But i will definitely take that into consideration

I've got a JoBox black diamond plate goldwing design. Got it for the low low and had it for 2yrs and never an issue. I went with gold wing design b/c i run a single stack on the passenger side. I've not been able to locate that style tool box anywhere. I guess I got lucky. Haha

I have the wide box and it doesnt block any view of the bed from the mirrors. I dont think I could go back to a standard width box again. I can fit all sorts of tools in there and still have room!

Dude I'm with you Pro-Tech is quality. Had mine since 2004, so 6 years as well. I imagine this box will last me the life of the truck, no exaggeration.

If I had to have a steel box, weather guard would probably get the nod. I've heard nothing but good things about them from contractors I've worked with over the years.
