just relax, it doesn't matter that much!
i guess we just don't see them out there in most of our markets so we assume they're not easy to get because we t hink that there should be a big demand for base model diesels, but there isn't. i've never actualy gone to look for one because i wouldn't buy it anyway.

nobody sees them in their markets unless they're in a fleet market... you don't really save any money buying a stripper model because they're somewhat few and far between at dealers, and special ordering will bump your price up.

then when you go to sell it, it doesn't fetch near what an optioned out truck will fetch, so you lose money on it again.

I love rubber floors, but you can keep the manual windows, mirrors, seats, etc.

My buddy's '07 ST CTD w/4wd,cruise,chrome grill, power towing mirrors, limited slip, single cd,reg cab, g-56,manual trans case was $27,900+ fees at DSM. My SLT,same year was $1300 under invoice minus incentives for a total of $30,300 + fees. They and Dodge were very generous at that period. I just wish I'd ordered bronze.

It doesn't show dirt nor scratches and blends in to the Baja landscape. A local guy has one with the ST black grill and black wheels. I am retired too.

You guys are funny. Live in the now! I'm sure you and your 12 buddies agree that trucks should be bare bone "trucks", but fortunately for the rest of the world, the big three build trucks according to what the market wants. That is why there are options. Options to get your truck fully loaded or bare bones, it's your choice! Huh, who would of thought that choices are better than one standard way. Look at the big picture, from a global, business stand point and tell me that a bare bones truck is going to be popular with everyone.

One more thing, I live in America, home of the choice (within all legal reason, of course).

It isn't just trucks, it is everything in our society including the men. Everything is becoming more and more feminine. Take a look at movies and T it is being pushed.

I am 6'5", and I see no "need" for a power seat, just my desire to own a vehicle with one.

My wife's Golf has manual seats... That go up and down by pumping a lever, recline with a wheel, and move fore and aft. I have never been overly uncomfortable on a long drive in it, and I suffer from severe degenerative disc disease with 3 herniated lumbars and one completely torn disc. I also retrofitted my 1st Gen 4Runner with manual seats from an 89 MR2. They tilt, recline, have lumbar support and lateral supports that are adjustable. They are infinitely more comfortable than the stock SR5 buckets that came in the 4Runners of that era.

No matter where I sit, I will be uncomfortable after extended periods, but the debate between power and manual is only dependent on the adjustments that can be made in respect to the specific vehicle.

I have been back and forth on this issue. I just stepped out of my 2003 Denali into a Dodge Ram 2500 Heavy Duty, for the exact reasons stated above. While I liked the amenities of the Denali. I was in a constant maintenance mode, and the truck just did not take a beating very well. The worse was family vacation, which for some odd reason seem to be much more chanllenging than a work day in the truck. In short your family just plain don't care about the truck especially when they are in it for 5 or 6 hours at a time. On top of that they want to bring everything and the kitchen sink. While the denali was incredibly comfortable. things like hatches switches, and seat controls were always getting broken and scratched up. If you are a clean freak like me that drives you nuts. I tow a large boat and toy hauler and while the Denali was rated to tow that stuff. It was challenged when the going got tough off road or up grades, but the family and friends always wanted to ride in it and when all was working right, there was nothing better than listening to MP3s in my nice comfy leather lined chair and the dual climate control kicking.

I now have my Dodge, and it has much less amenities, but I don't think twice about the exterior or interior breaking as it just does not have all the fancy stuff to go wrong. On the flip side it does have enough delighters that I don't miss my Denali that much. While the seats are not leather, the cloth Dodge offers is not that bad and beats GM 70's velvet by a long haul. THe radio aint fancy but the infinity system gets sat radio and good speakers that makes the long drives easier. And seriously who can live without power seats, mirrors, door locks, and windows theses days?

One option the my new Ram has that the old Denali did not is remote start. I know this has been around a while, but on a Diesel rig this is just genious cause as we all know it takes a while for heat to get into these rigs, and when your out in the middle of no where, doing work, you just cannot wait to get into a warm truck.

As with everything it is a fine balance I think.

you don't say? interesting... but I'm pretty sure we're talking about new Dodge full size trucks here, right?

I don't drive a 4runner, an MR2, or a Volkswagen... I drive a dodge ram, and I need a power driver's seat in order to get the correct seating position or I am prone to semi-severe nerve pain in my leg and lower back.

Never had power seats in anything, power windows and locks are nice. Mirrors doesn't really matter since I only drive my truck so they never need adjusted unless some one messes with it. I would like to see less dash and a little more leg room.
And generally work trucks cost more to have a striped truck than the little nicer truck with power locks and windows. We got several new Ford work trucks and ended up spending extra for the trucks with no power locks, windows or cruse control than trucks with them.
