Hey guys being in the pipeline business for 8 years now and now in a control room. I worked in the field running smart pigs in all sizes of lines. When the diesel makes it to the terminal it goes into storage tanks. From there it hits the racks, now depending on the company it may get its Cetane injected there and is filtered before it hits the truck. Very strict quality control. Now here is the catch some of you are Shell Fans or Exxon fans...but to let you know, your diesel can come from any plant and sold to any gas station. Next is the maintenance of the tanks at the fuel stop. You can get bacteria that grow in the tanks aerobic and anaerobic, ever seen like a black sludge in your filter. That is due to none cleaning of the tank. The bacteria residue settles on the bottom of the tank. Now this bacteria feeds and uses the oxygen in the fuel. Once in your tank you will have filter problems and loss of power. I ran across this when I was working for Waukesha. I screwed my self out of OT fixing the problem. I pulled my 1,000 gal tank and steamed cleaned and treated the fuel with Biobor JF with in 6 months the problem was corrected on all of my rental units 10kw to 300kw and saved the company thousands of dollars a month in maintenance. so as far as a slap on fuel filter to put over the pump nozzle, could something like a piece of panty hose be used? May sound funny, but I'm thinking of a little cylindrical cap with a piece of panty hose that clips on to the pump nozzle.

any other ideas for a filter? I'd like to make one, think if you could get a piece of pvc and a filter and wouldn't have to run a 2 micron filter setup, how cool would that be?

Picking a fuel stop, I think there is more to it now I am filling up a POV and not a work truck. I know I am babying my new truck but Rolling Thunder needs the best! I like fuel stops that have supplies. I have been stopping at the Flying J on Richie Road here in Houston Texas. This was my 3 stop. After reading the post about the big truck lanes, I hit the Auto Island thanks for the good post on that! Well it has been nasty weather on every stop. So I like to do some basic PMSC like check all the fluids, clean the head lights, mirrors, windshield wipers, apply some rain X and top it off with a piping hot cup of coffee. Well on every stop there has been no windshield washer fluid in the wash bucket or it is so nasty smelling you would not use it. Zero paper towns in all the dispensers. And to top it off the fuel pump handles are leaking. I have reported three times to the cashier who was really to busy talking to the Sheriffs Deputy who was hired to protect the Flying J assets. Now I work for a section of Conoco Phillips and our name is all over the fuel pumps. I thought maybe I could get something done. I was wrong about that. With fuel prices the way they are, they need to be competitive in all other areas. Most station only makes a .01 on a gallon. So it is important to get drivers to stop, and buy other items such a cold 12 pack after a hard day’s work or a fresh cup of coffee.

I have always passed up the stations that only have a single old diesel pump.....I have never payed any attention about the high flow pumps....I usually stick to flying j because I hate pilot. but I guess I'll have to start hittin pilot more now. GREAT INFO!
