I could of swore cummins is made in America, This true or false? This guy at work gives me sh*t all the time bout my truck. hes a powerstroke guy ha!! Can anybody back me up or what??
Cummins Inc., a global power leader, is a corporation of complementary business units that design, manufacture, distribute and service engines and related technologies, including fuel systems, controls, air handling, filtration, emission solutions and electrical power generation systems. Headquartered in Columbus, Indiana (USA), Cummins serves customers in approximately 190 countries and territories through a network of more than 500 Company-owned and independent distributor locations and approximately 5,200 dealer locations. Cummins reported net income of $801 million on sales of $14.34 billion in 2008.
About 51% of Cummins business comes from outside the US. They have significant operations in Brazil, US and England....International Harvester has nearly as many operations around the world.
A year ago I had to replace my head and it is made in Brazil and about 10 months ago I had to replace my cracked 53 block that was made in Brazil. Some parts are made here but the engines are assembled here in the states. Then they are shipped off to Mexico for final assembly of the truck.
parts of cummins are made all over. I pulled a FLYWHEEL yesterday and it says MADE IN CHINA real big on the back side. Made me so mad. I hate everything that is not made in america. My very own 53 block was made in mexico. Look inside the drivers door and it should say where it was made. Mine says real clearly....made in mexico...... ITS CRAP. But they still have the best engine!!!! LOVE CUMMINS TO DEATH but....china dont cut it!!!! Maybe we wouldnt have the fueling problems and all the little problems we have it we made it all in america all in one spot where they can get their sh*t strait. ya know?
The two largest market contributors for the Cummins are in Jamestown, NY and Rocky Mount, NC. The over the road truck engines and larger marine engines are made in NY, while the Cummins we are most accustomed with are made in NC. A portion of the castings are actually domestic but there are still some produced overseas (such as in Brazil).
The corporation I work for (IR) and Cummins share some best practices such as assembly and machining. I've been in both facilities and they are extremely impressive (as well as huge... like they have a car inside the plant to drive from one side to the other).
Just because bosch is creating a monopoly doesnt mean they are any good. They just know how to work the system. Dont let anyone know how to rebuild their stuff and dont sell their rebuild kits so they double their money. Why is there a core charge???? Cuz THEIR going to rebuild it and triple there money. hmmmmm...... Find me a rebuild kit for my vp44. Truethfuly i think bosch is junk. look at all the vp44 fuel problems. what happened to that???? they have the p-pump true and its good but what about everything else.
honestly i dont know of any other brands as far as injection pumps but im just saying look at how many vp44s go out. Only bosch certified techs can work on them..... Therefore they have a monopoly going for them. im sure theres some guys in the U.S.A that can build somthing better than the china made crap or any overseas crap.....but $$$$$$$$ causes a factor. Bosch in my mind has probably the only replacement for the vp44 and there the only ones that can work on them cuz they are the only ones that can get the parts so they can build crap because they will get the money right back....Therefore monopoly. If someone else were to start making pumps and sell the rebuild kits for it....id pay 3 to 4 grand for that instead of buying a bosch that is for sure gonna go out someday that you have to drop another 2 grand on. Im sure rebuild kits for those pumps dont cost $2000.
Lets not forget the cummins-mexico operations! (IIRC they have an assembly plant down there and also do some casting)
Hah, nothing is actually made 100% in the US any more... Every company has found some way to farm out most of their work to cheap countries with cheap labour in efforts to line their own pockets with dough...
Populist America, the only country that insists every youth goes to college and then gets a manufacturing job.
When it comes to injection systems, all of the companies out there have had systems with serious problems. The Cummins CAPS system, which they designed as a bigger, badder VP-44, was one tenth as reliable as the VP-44. The VP-44 is, as far as rotary pumps go, of average reliability, especially considering that it's putting out a higher power level than its competitors. I'd bet that Bosch systems are on the whole more reliable than their competitors.
I dont see you using a vp44??? I have one....it F-N BLOWS. The p pumps seem to be fine. I dont find my vp to be very reliable right along with every other one that i have seen. My moms truck was brand new with less than 50,000 miles and hers went out and she doesnt hotrod like i do. Their just junk....admit it. Every vp ive seen has either been replaced or needs replaced. or replaced with a p pump.
The sticker inside the door only tells you where the truck was made, not the engine, right? My truck has St. Louis plant stickers on both front windows.
Also, Bosch doesn't make the Monster VP do they? And what about BD's new VP-44 replacement that's coming out soon?
Its still a vp44 design.... to me its still going to work like the vp44. Ive also heard the the hotrod will gain power but once you get way up in the hp ratings it will accually make it harder to make more hp on the peak. idk
Well how much can you really redesign it as an aftermarket pump? It has to be the same size/shape and do the same thing. I do agree that the P-pump kicks it's butt, maybe someday i'll P-pump mine, but for now that's filed under "F" for Fat Chance...
