ok guys im new to this site and a little new to diesels, so im getting ready to head out for basic training and when i get back im prolly gona by a cummins, so my question is 24v vs 12v im oblivious to which one is better for all aroun d power so some non bias opinons would be helpful
A P Pumped truck will be able to produce more HP than a VP powered truck. However at higher HP a 12V will be less streetable than a 24V. As far as reliability, you can't beat a 12V provided the KDP has been tabbed and it is not a #53 block.

24V has fuel pump issues that can cost you a couple grand if the lift pump dies and kills the injector pump. The first thing you should do with a 24V is to put on a fuel pressure gauge to make sure this doesn't happen. The 24V also requires money for programmers to make power.
12V has an issue with the KDP (killer dowel pin) that can wreck an engine, but it's a cheap fix if you tab the pin before it falls out. Making power on a 12V comes from mechanical tuning, so you don't have to shell out $$$ for chips to go fast.
Other than that, there isn't much of a difference.
welcome aboard bud, good luck & enjoy your stay. drive 1 of each stock, then you'll know.
