Well like it says, we know alot about all three, but which, and why do you choose the brand or motor you do( of the 3). Me i love the cummins hands down, not biased, i done my research on all 3. I love the Dodge/Cummins, cause it has the solid axle which i do make good use of, and i didnt buy this truck for a granny ride, afterall its a truck. Cummins motor is just amazing, less moving parts, more torque down low on RPM's, cast iron head and block. Best MPG's, most tunable. Offered in Ford F-550-650, Its a medium duty Engine, unlike the other 2. and i love the looks and always have i love the whole truck, but this is about the motors themselves. I would have to choose the Duramax Second, and Powerstroke Third. For too many reasons to list. But lets see all of your reasons, and back up of why you choose the perticular motor you do.
I know this is a Cummins site, But I just want honest answers and opinions, as i will be posting this on other sites too. Instead of bashing i just want real opinions, cause bashing is unnessary, cause afterall we all know Cummins is the best, so why argue. Ha haha ha.
Wow really, i honestly had no clue, dang know i feel bad for wasting my, and everyones time. Well i guess, any administrator can feel free to just erase this thread if possible, i guess.
No need to apologize, the best way to tell which one you will like the best will be to test drive them. I like my dodge but I respect the PSD and the Dmax. Best of luck.
I personally would also take the PSD 7.3, over any other PSD. For The D-Max, I think the LLY, but its kind of odd how they already have LB7,LLY,LBZ,LMM, 4 motors in a matter of 8 years, maybe thay are really gunning on getting ahead of the game, i dunno.
I chose my cummins because it's simply the best one of all 3. The D-Max is an izuzu motor which to me I'll avoid I remember one that blew up hauling a trailer that was only about 5K lbs with only like 100,000 kms on it. The Limpstroke i've seen the same The place I used to work at had one that was rebuilt at 325,XXX kms and it has had nothing but issues since, blowing high pressure oil lines, constant failures.(the transmission literally broke in half) my cummins has 326,XXX on it and still pulls like new.
cummins all the way for me. less movin parts, last longer, sounds better (str8 piped or not), full axle, better manual tranny (autos are iffy), tuner friendly, easier to work on (less complicated), you don't see em puttin power struggles in semis do ya? it's a CUMMINS!!!
To be fair GM and Ford aren't true engine and power generation companies like Cummins Inc.. The 6.6 durmax is used in GM's medium duty Topkick. The 5.9 is used in everything from dozers, RVs, etc. It is a proven engine. Did it every make it into Ward's Top 10 engines? I think the award started in 1998 or 1999, and since there hasn't been a major redesign it may not qualify.
If I could get the Cummins engine with the Allison tranny in a truck that had Dodge styling, Ford assembly quality, and chevy ride quality and amenities, I'd do it.
I'm a huge fan of the 6BT. Either pump works for me. It is a huge engine though with a lot of heft. It is (in my opinion) the hands-down overkill winner.
The Duramax has shown to be a great engine. It is a hotrod diesel, easy to mod, more compact and a little lighter. Its quiet and reliable. In my opinion it is the most gas-like in how it drives, so I think it has some mass appeal since its a more transparent transition for people. I don't care, but I think a lot of gas-lovers who are on the fence might go the Dmax route for its drivability.
The 7.3 PSD is another favorite. The 6.0 is kinda poopy. The 6.4 I don't know since I haven't owned one or really had any experience with them.
the different Duramax models has to do with emissions more then anything and with the newer models they did upgrade a few things and the LB7 was the only one with injector problems..
IMO with the Duramax or Cummins you cant go wrong.
i hear the d max is factory fast, put a intake and exhaust the they go...but i also heard that they cant tow like a cummins. stick the same amount of $ in each 1 and cummins always comes out on top
it verys truck to truck i'm sure but so far i have been very happy with the towing capabilities of our duramax's although i will say the cummins seems to lug more on the hills vs the duramax wants to hit 2100-2300RPM's but at the end of the hill i cant say there was much of a difference and fuel economy was perty much the same also..comparing an 06 CR HO Cummins and a 06 LBZ Duramax.
