FTE 5" Exhaust and Resonator Review

Well, I finally got around to installing the 5" turbo back exhaust and resonator from Wally. First, let me say dealing with Wally was great! He definately knows his stuff and took the time to answer all my questions in detail and not give half a** answers to make a sale and get you off the phone. Great dealing with you Wally and I will definately be calling again!

Now for the product. The box arrived with a Flo-Pro decal on the box and the resonator separate. The box was HUGE and no damage. Upon opening the box, I immediately looked at the hangers and welds...they were beautiful! The pipe was perfect with no blemishes and no marks from the mandrels and bending dies! By far the nicest and cleanest kit I have every received.

The resonator had a few dings on the ends that needed to be addressed prior to install, but 30 seconds with a crescent wrench and we were good to go.

Now for the install. Getting the old system off was the typical PIA. A Sawzall made short work of it, but being a stock height truck with running boards was a little cramped! The kit went on an 07 with the 5.9. The directions were horrible for the 5.9...being a universal kit, they are more detailed for the 6.7. Had to install the over the axle pipe to get the others figured out. Not a big deal, but if you read directions you are screwed...probably why most men don't read directions...causes more harm than good!

I do have one complaint with the design of the resonator. Both ends are flared but neither have slots cut into them to allow you to cinch it down. I went ahead and cut 4 1" slits at each end to allow it to tighten up. Removal of the spare tire was not necessary and there is at least 1.5" clearance.

This kit fit perfect! There was no "adjusting" hangers, bending, re-welding, or anything. Just cut the one piece to length for the resonator and that is it. I can't see spending money on an exhaust and then have to rework or "adjust" it to make it fit...just makes no sense. And some of the reviews and comments on this board about other kits helped me decide on the FTE system. I have had many aftermarket kits in the past and even two high dollar T304 SS kits with full polish and they did not have the fit and finish of this kit.

Now for the good part...the sound! I started it up in a 30x45 garage and it rocked the walls. First thought was this might be too loud. Took it out for a test drive and could not be happier. Once outside, you could barely hear the exhaust sound from the cab. Now don't get me wrong you do know there is something there by the deep rumble. Took it on a 4 hour road trip to see my parents the next day and it was great. Very pleasant sound on the inside with just a little noise under load. On the outside...it sounds mean as hell!

If you are looking for a 5" kit. Take a good look at the FTE system with the resonator!

Thanks again Wally!

I just installed Wally's kit on my 06 Mega cab.. Fit's great with the exception of one of the hangers didnt line up.. but that could be me being stupid haha.. kit fits really well and looks really well put together and sounds good. I got the straight pipe kit and a resonator but haven't put the resonator on yet. i'm really impressed that the kit doesnt drone at cruising speed.. I'm very happy i spent the little extra money and went with this kit instead of one of the budget kits.. plus it looks killer with the 7" tip !!

thanks Wally!!

Chris

The pipe that has the single hanger on it. I was in a hurry so it very well could be me. In what order did you put the straight pieces in?

Thanks,

Chris

That was the one that drove me crazy. Ended up putting it on the "over the axle" pipe and it all worked out great. Think I had to turn it around.

Will take a few pics tomorrow and post them up. Not sure of the order, but did make provisions for a future inline Pacbrake.
