Well i normally run normal rotella 15w40 in the summer with 2 quarts of Lucas but after reading i dont think i will use the Lucas anymore.. But anyways, would Wolfs Head 15w40 synthetic heavy duty diesel oil be ok to run by itself in the winter? Im in PA. Or would it be too thick and should i drop to 10w30 like the manual says. Its a 94 12v with 233000 miles if its of any importance. I just got a few gallons of that Wolfs Head stuff for next to nothing and was wondering if i could use it once?

I'm fairly new to my old truck but I will probably be taking a trip up to Wisconsin in late Feb./early March...

Live in TX where it lights right off all the time but somewhat worried about taking it up North and it not starting properly, behaving badly, etc...

I don't know where the electrical plug in is located for my oil/engine block heater or if it even has one at all...Could someone please tell me where the plug in would be located if it does have one..???

Also, any concerns with taking it up to WI in the previously mentioned time frame..??? The Real Boss is riding up there with me and auto trouble usually isn't something she likes to talk about or experience, particularly in cold weather...

Any and all help/advice appreciated...Yep, I'm a newbie here but the dumbest question is the one you never ask...

Thanks and Regards...

IF anyone is brewing their own bio I could use some help. I was getting my feedstock from a place that kept it pretty clean. The place has gone out of business and now I am getting it from a place that cooks wings and other stuff. It still looks pretty good but it titrates fairly high. My issue is this, After it cools from processing it has a yellowish film on the top almost like a slime. I can pull it off most times and throw it out but if it falls apart it will sink. It happens nearly every time I heat it up. It will also have sort of a white/yellow slime in the bubbles if I agitate it (Run it through the dryer or circulate it). I am using 12 gallons of meth and five pounds of lye for a 50 gal batch. Is this soap or is this a residual fat? Seems to wash and run OK after is is all said and done but I have not had this happen before with the other feedstock

Well we took the camper out this weekend. Went back to my home town...about 2 1/2 hrs---150 miles.

on the way up i was running prob B80+ and never got over 1250 on the EGT gauge no matter what.

on the way home it was reg pump diesel. The highest i got was just a hair over 1400.

I know that reg diesel fuel has more BTUs and this is prob why it was doing this, i just thought is was worth posting.

Opti lube xpd vs summer blend

Ok the xpd mix ratio is 256:1 which gives you a 319 micron improvement. The cost per tank is $4.35. The opti lube rep told me you can get good results using half the recomended ratio which would cut the cost in half but I would think would also cut the micron improvement in half.

The summer blend mix ratio is 3000:1 and it gives you a 189 micron improvement. The cost for this is .68 cents per tank. If we double this ratio I would think again this would double the micron improvement which would make it a better performer than the xpd and would only cost $1.36 per tank.

They both clean injectors.

The xpd does have anti gel good down to -20 deg F (mixed at full strength 256:1)

The xpd also has cetane boost of 3 points ( I am not sure that cetane boost is a good thing tho. From what I have read it speeds up the burn and a slow burn might be better becuase is provides power longer during the power stroke)

I am sure you can all see where this is headed. Since the xpd was the best fuel additive in the lubricity study at 256:1 ratio I would think the summer blend (which ranked 4th in the study at 3000:1 ratio)
would have been well above the xpd if they would have both used the same ratio.

I am by no means an expert just sharing my thoughts and welcome any input from those of you who are more educated in this area. Also thanks to those of you who have already investigated and shared your findings on this subject.

I just read an article in Diesel Power Mag. that showed a 1 mpg increase when adding ashless tcw-3 oil at a concentration of 200:1. I am looking at giving this a whorl, but I wanted to see if this will not work for cold climates. It is starting to get down into the 20's at night here, and will be getting colder soon. Is this a warm weather mod only, or does this work in any weather?
