OK got a good one here. Just picked up a 518 from the scrap yard with low miles. Problem is its two wheel drive. if I remove the tail overdrive goes with it. Can I swap my 4x4 727 output on the 518 and run the 727 valvebody, Or should I look for a 4x4 518 tail section and run the overdrive.

The major question would be what tail sections will work. Will any 518-46re section work? Most websites show multiple year listings.

Thanks in advance,

Doing all the service on my truck and the fuel filter I took off was unbelievably bad. Almost rusty looking down inside of it and full of crap. Just bought this truck and it's been a long time since the filter was replaced. Put on a new Napa Gold. Wondering if I should run this for a little while and then put on another new one. I used the lift pump lever to fill the new filter and the fuel looked clean being pumped into it. Truck runs great.

I got my getrag put back together tonight, after a full rebuild, I Installed new bearings, syncro rings, input shaft, main shaft, 1/2 synrcro assembly, and 3/4 syncro assembly. Now the input and main shaft seem to turn kinda tight by hand. I set the pre-load at .001. Craig at Zumbrosa said to set the pre-load as close to neutral as I could. My question is, do these transmission's normally feel kinda tight before they run? Will it loosen up a little as it breaks in? All these parts were almost 800.00$, and I don't wanna wreck it. Does any one have any advice for me on this issue? Much thanks in advance!!!!

Now that I have my '92 W350 DRW, I'm interested in tuning it up a bit for better towing/hauling performance, especially in the mountains. It was really struggling on the steep grades with less than 5k pounds hooked up to it. There's a ton of information out there, but I'd like to hear opinions as to what people feel would be my best approach for a stock vehicle which already has 4.10 gears. I'm not looking for a sled puller or drag racer, but just something with some more torque and ponies to pull a 5k pound travel trailer and a bed full of tools.

For those of you who missed it before...
430,000kms, GETRAG, 4x4, axles and xfer case have been done in the past 30,000kms... GETRAG is makin a bit of noise, and it has the odd leaks here and there, so it's going into the gragage and how now been deamed, the project truck, and will be ripped apart and fix what i feel needs to be fixed...

It has the 16cm turbo housing on it, 3" straight pipe, Pump is turned up, and that's about it.

Oh and the 'sleeper' will be for sale if anyone is looking...
