Got my warranty replacement Goerend tranny finally, going to be swapping it tonight. I have never pulled the tranny out of my truck before as I got them to put it in the first time, so just wondering if there are any tips to make this easier/faster.
Have a tranny jack so thats taken care of, but anything I should know about before tackling this, any obstacles that I will run into??

Thanks in advance!!

Dealer wants $575 to adjust valves, includes new gaskets. Is this reasonable or should I give it a try myself. I did install my Edge Juice and Fass and 4" stacks and I do my brakes so how complicated is valve adjustment? 106000 miles..

Also, needs crankshaft seal, hydraulic pump seal, gear housing gasket, and new serpentine belt. This job quoted @$579.

Is this the time to do head studs and new injectors??????????

Replacing VP44.

I posted on here a few days ago about my lift pump dying, and after I put on a Raptor 100 I thought I had the problem fixed. But didn't happen. The truck runs poorly, sputters and dies, and shows symptoms of dead pedal. So I bit the bullet and bought a VP44 from J Kidd of DieselAutoPower.com. Super guy to talk to and he asked a lot of questions, just didn't try to sell me a pump right off the bat. He wanted to make sure it was what I needed, and he was going to get it out today if at all possible.

Thanks to all the advice on here and the YouTube videos on removing the VP44 I was able to get it out very easily. Absolutely no problems whatsoever. I would have hesitated to tackle the job if I hadn't seen the videos and read the various posts on here. Thanks to everyone.

This is for all of you: :yourock:

so, I have 4:10's (dropped the 3:54??? I think)... in my truck and I imagine this throws off the MPG reading on my overhead.

Any idea how to calculate for the difference in gearing? How does this computer actually calculate MPG.

While I'm at it, any way to get my speedometer in line with the gearing?

Looking for a little help. I dont usually work on these but I have a guy broke down traveling through. I just bought this in MO on his way back to MI. He says it would start blowing fuse every ten miles. I guy at the gas station sent him to me. 99 2wd cab and a half dually. When running it sounds real good. Odometer shows 529,000. I have not driven it but have 1 hour idle time on it. K and N style air filter was plugged solid. Codes recorded were P 1693 0215 1689 0380 1899 1389 500 1682 0463. After clearing these non have returned yet. Data on Snap On Modis was bouncing around APP was reading 2000% at one time. Temps were erratic when I first started. I checked the other modules and data was reading ok. After it warmed up a little I went back to ecm and readings were ok. I have no fuse box cover but the fuse that was blown was 5 th from right on the top inside fuse box. Ecm on passenger side firewall appears to be original, it has update sticker on it from 99. This has had lots of wires added here and there and we have NO history, of course it belonged to one of you. :D Fuse is number 9

In the past i asked about my 98.5 jumping in and out of OD. I finally got around to working it out. Turns out my alternator was not putting out enough under a load which pulled down my batteries which did not give my OD the juice it needed. Had the alt. redone, 2 new batts. and good to go with all the accesseries running. thanks for all the insite to those who responded to my earlier thread. Mark

Flags Left By Chips/Programmers...

Long time lurker of the shadows here, first time poster in this section of the forum.

I am a couple weeks away from taking the plunge into buying a 2001 extended cab 6 speed truck from a "local" auction mart.

Only problem is, for the next 4 weeks I am about 1600 miles away so I am relying on a friend who works there to give the truck a once over.

Its got 219 xxx KM's and looks clean, but he will back that up if it is.

I have very little issue buying one of these trucks with high miles. My grandpa has a 99 with just over 200 k on it, i think hes put some money into the brakes, tires and new springs for when he got his fifth wheel (he used the truck so little the leaf springs rusted and broken the one summer i used it for landscaping haha)

My uncle had a 6 speed a few years ago and i LOVED that truck... specially have he put the chip in it...

But i don't want a chip in mine unless i can be the one to "molest" it for the first time...

So to end this rambling, my buddy who is checking out the truck for me says he has a code reader for any check engine lights, but i don't know what kind. He said he could also have the truck sent into their mechanic and be given a very good look over.

Is there to easily look for red flags (short of a trip to the dealer) that have been left from previous chips or programmers?

Below 40 and she would fire but die instantly. Checked everything... finally someone told me to heat that good ole VP44 computer with a blow dryer and that they would bet a steak dinner it would start just fine. Well,, it did. Replaced the pump yesterday(1300.00 installed) and she fired up fine this morning. A little tip that helped me so maybe it will help someone else out there.

so I have described this in another thread, but its gotten worse so just banging some ideas around.
if I'm on the highway in 5th gear with the cruise control set at 70. as soon as the truck finishes coasting down a grade and I hit the next grade going up the tranny slips out of gear, which then cancels cruise control when it attempts to rev.

the first time i did this without cruise it was around 80+ mph and a very steep hill on the back roads. now its only a 3-4% grade at 70mph. on flat roads I dont have any problems, but then I'm also not coasting in 5th on flats very often either.

I'm not sure if its a synchro, i dont think it would be. maybe the notch that holds the shifter in gear is worn?

the truck is my dads, 01 2500 6 speed, HO, quad cab, long bed, 3.55s. the truck will start right up if the air is cold but later in the day when it warms up it is hard to start. it cranks fast but no fire. we put a fuel pressure gauge and it was 4 psi at idle so he put a new lift pump. it still wasnt great, dont remember the psi but the over flow/check valve on the side of the injecter valve was bad so we changed it and it is getting 9psi while cranking, 15 psi at idle and 9psi at 2500 rpms. it will start but takes 15 to 20 sec to start, sometimes longer and sometimes we have to try several times. he changed all the injector tube o-rings, the dran valve on the filter and both scharder valves on the test ports. its getting a 0622 code- ground field in alt and 1693 code. a friend so bringing a scanner to check that code.

Hello all,

I have red the posting instructions and will follow accordingly!

1998.5 24valve cummins. extended cab long bed, manual transmission. 4x4.

I have owned this truck for approx a year now and put on around 60000km. I am recently noticing a decrease in power and acceleration, It has a hell of a hard time getting up to speed! the pull is not there. especially pulling a trailer.

Now this truck has had the upgraded lift pump installed in ht e tank from Dodge, before my time of ownership, as well as a aftermarket exhaust manifold(with the expansion ring on it) The injection pump to the best of my knowledge is still original. I have had no troubles starting hot or cold, Idle is a little higher than normal I have been led to believe. Idle is at approx 900 rpm.

All parties I have spoken are pointing to injection pump but no one seems to give me that comforting feeling of YES THAT WILL CURE YOUR POWER LOSS!

Just tonight I had a fella tell me possibility of ECM on side of block? I don't know.

looking for some advice. Thanks.
