Everybody has an idea of what the definition of big is or what race is. This is a step in the right direction for more average guys. For a fellow that is out to be the biggest or baddest, there is no doubt that the big ZZ Fab head with full porting and all would be the better way to go. No doubt, it is a reman head. But its a reman head with a 2 angle valve job, new valve guides, upgraded retainers and locks, casting mis-alignment removed where found, fire ring grooves, high rpm valve springs, decked and ready to install. This is not intended to be a end-all solution for high end drag engines. This is an affordable head for weekend warriors that is set up well and built by folks that know what is going on. No need to get rude about it, if you dont like it.... you dont like it. Industrial has a pretty good reputation for putting together things that work, and they are good about supporting the dealers and the customers. It is... what it is. Larry |

Not this particular head in person Brian, but I was just speaking off of doing heads on customers trucks, etc. See my post below for a better idea of what I mean. I was simply saying that there had to be some porting done, as that (in my expeirences) porting & polishing is what makes a huge gain in head work. Quote:
Look at the head that I have on my 12 valve for example. I took a stock very low mileage head, sent it out, and had the work done to it. Yes it is a "re-maned" head, no it's not a "full race" head. It has the stock intake side on it (no zz intake), but I went and did the decking, competition valve job, springs, guides, retainers, springs, o-rings, etc. But I went and did an all out port & polish on my particular head. Turned out great, and made a giant difference.

Adam, Also we are waiting for Brett to get the money stashed for the turbo he wants. He wishes to do the head install at the same time as the turbo....so this thing may set here for a month awaiting him being ready to do it. |

I did talk to Justin about the head some more. The headgasket and fire rings are coming, they were shipped after the head. There is 6 hours of porting and flowing on the head, but the way Justin explained it: The port runners are not the big issue with flow on this head. By simply going in and deburring the casting lines and mismatch you take care of the runners well enough for this type of head. Where the time is spent is in the bowl area under the valves. This is where the 6 hours of porting was spent. He feels that there are big advantages to working the bowl area rather than spending a bunch of time in the runners. Now, the bigger head with the ZZ-Fab intake has port runners, bowl work and a different valve angle grind... but that is a whole different class of head. I know, your going to ask me to pull a couple valves and take pictures....lol. Brett from Wyotech has yet to make it down here to even look at the head. Until he comes down and tells me it is OK to start messing with it.... I will not touch it. It is not mine to molest, so it would be wrong to play around with his new II head without his direct consent. Hopefully he will show up and ask to see the bowl work... then I would have a great oppurtunity to see exactly what Justin at II did back there! |
