and what is the real difference between that and a stage 2 or even stage 1 for that matter?

Honestly I really don't know. AFE does make a great filter and intake set up though.

Stage 2 goes all the way to the turbo inlet snout. The stage 1 is not a complete replacement to the snout.

The MEGA CANNON has the super huge filter with the largest surface area. This intake in particular is great for guys with large turbo and injector upgrades that may suck in the smaller stage 2 filter. The MEGA CANNON is the biggest and baddest filter your going to get onto your truck out of the box. Consider it the king Mac-daddy!
