I want this space to be for YOU---The Cummins Forum User! Any FASS questions and problems i would love to be on here. SO this can help any with issues, looking to get info, and such. A FAQ Page of sorts.....so Please feel free to start any threads pertaining to FASS or the HPFP. HECK! I might even use some of yall to help me come up with better solutions to issues. Thanks to all in advance!

Dan.....thanks for being here for us, I enjoy that you are here to keep us informed of the Fass products, this tells me that Fass is there before, during and after the sale and wants my repeat business. I am very pleased with my Fass II on my 01 and consider this upgrade to be one of my better bombs, I aint worried about fuel supply anymore.

Question- The older Fass moter that has brushes, how many hours or miles of service can one expect out of a set of brushes?

Has a life expectency been determined on this setup yet? About how many hours or miles can I expect?

Based on our ware test analysis, the old motor (Under ideal conditions....good ground, no moisture getting into the motor, etc) would run to 10,000 to 12,000 Hrs. Take an average of 50 MPH....that is 600,000 miles on the high side before the brushes needed to be replaced. Problems occurred with the older motors with bad grounds and leaky brush caps that didn’t seal well and caused the brush guides and brushes to become corroded. This caused them to stick and not contact the armature. Thus the motor would not run. BUT striking the motor with a block of wood would free the brush and let the motor run in most cases. Some times the corrosion would be too bad in the brush guides that the motor would have to be replaced. Other than that…they were great motors. They just got bad reps on the sites because people would read the same posts over and over and think it was a new issue. We did have issues, but not to the extent that people think.

The new motors are great! They ware tested at 12,000 to 15,000 hrs! The only real issue we have had with them is bearing failures. And those are few and far between. And in all cases, the only issue was noise. The motor still ran fine!! SO this issue wont leave you stranded! These are a better design due to they seal from the outside moisture TONS better. I have had units come in that look like they were dunked in mud……I open up the motor, and it looks as good as the new ones we have on the shelf! The brush spring is a better design. Only draw back is that this motor is not serviceable like the older unit.

Small price to pay for a longer lasting motor.

My personal goal is to turn around people’s opinion that FASS has bad customer service. TDR was real bad about talking DPP down about that. AND they had just cause. BUT with me here, i can handle tons more issues on the Sites, and talk with Dealers to handle issues to better educate them, so you have better first hand service in the shop you bought your FASS from. I find a lot of people don’t want to take the time to properly diagnose their problem. BUT i feel if they have a place to turn too and read some stuff that can better help them; it will make my job easier. I can talk to one person on the phone and help that one person. I can talk to one person on here, and help 1000's!!!! These sites are gold mines!!!!!!

I don't have a truck yet but am doing some research on the upgrades I will be doing and trying to figure out how much I will spend to do them. Should be buying a truck in Aug. When I get moved back to the states... In the military and stationed in Germany until Aug. I am looking into the upgrades needed for cold weather and running BioDiesel. So I think a fuel line heater will be a good thing. Also looking to get extra MPG and more power

What are your sugestion not looking to do huge HP and TQ. Just more... and get the best MPG I can preferably 20+. on the highway.

I would go with a small plate, injectors, intake, exhaust and a light foot! You should be happy with that......20+ is hard to get with these big trucks.....but a 12V has the best chance to get slightly over 20 than any other Cummins IMHO.......

Thanks for the info, I forgot to put my real question for you in my last post... Would you sugest the 95 or the 150 for what I am looking to do? I know extra fuel is not ever really a problem I just don't need over kill. With both units being the same price I guess it really does not matter extra fuel is always good but I do want to get decent economy also. With that being said what are your thoughts.

The 95 GPH unit is fine for 95% of the trucks on the road. I got guys running 500+ HP with the 95 GPH, and only drop 1.5 PSI. SO....i think this will be all you need.

I have one of the first round FASS 150 on my 01. I love the pump have not had any real issues out of it. The one problem i do have and it started a little over a year ago is it will build pressure when at idle for extended period of time or pulling a long hill with a load. Where i see it the most is in a local parade 1st gear for about 3 miles pressure had gotton up to 32 psi. Take it down the road at speed for 20 mins back down to 15psi. What does this? It will on ocassion drop down to 10 or 11 psi but normal is around 15.

Sounds like a Ball Sticking......or pressure spring......OR some restriction on the FASS return line back to the tank. Check the tank Vent? BOTH are very cheap to try to replace....might not hurt to get a fresh spring in that 3 year old unit! Our springs now are way differant than ones back in the day.....lil more robust in design. I would try a PS-1002 (Pressure spring). We also have an updated T-Block that has a pressure releif built in.....this will keep the motor happy if the filter should plug. I love hearing good news rather than "My motor quit". SEE! These old motors still run......just bad news travles faster than good! haha......

I am thinking of running a Kenne Bell Boost-a-Pump on my 150 GPH FASS HPFP to bump fuel pressure when WOT....

I am sucking pressure down to 9 psi WOT from 19 at idle.

Any issues from running more than 12 volts to the pump?

Geeez Diesel Freak.....I ran a FASS 95 at well over 500hp, and with a 15 lb spring, couldn't pull pressure down lower than 13psi. I now have a FASS 150 with a 20 lb spring and can't pull pressure below 17 psi at WOT. Both sets of numbers are with the FASS sucking through a Racor Nomad fuel heater just before the FASS and a 2-micron filter.

Almost sounds like you may have a problem.
