Hey Dan,
I posted this question in another thread, then I found this one so I will ask the same here.
I ordered a FASS HPFP and I have a dealer installed in-tank lift pump. Do we need to bypass this pump, or do we connect to it on top of the tank without having to drop the tank and let the FASS suck through it?
You will need to do one of 2 things:
1. Get a stock sending module and reinstall it. (Which if you sweet talk your dealer, they might have a few just laying around waiting to be tossed in the trash)
2. Get a suction tube kit. STK-1001 for the 03-06 trucks and STK-1002 for the 94-02 trucks.
Either way.....tank needs to be dropped.....sorry!
I just installed my FASS 95/150 and my Hot Rod VP44. I'm only seeing 14psi at idle, have yet to have it WOT because my tranny isnt gonna hold. But I had been in the throttle kinda hard and it hasnt been below 12psi. I was hoping for more psi at idle then 14. I had better psi at idle with my stock lp. Also I can not get my water seperator filter to stop leaking. Ive had it off twice and the gasket/o ring looks to be in perfect shape. Not really wanting to buy a new filter since this one is brand new. Anybody else had this problem?

HUH....well if the Water Sep is leaking.....more than likely you are sucking air. This filter is on the suction side of the pump. Contact your selling dealer with your SN and have them call me. Double check the o-ring on the filter and make sure its pushed down all the way in its recess. Usally we see some fuel filters leak......WS we never see.
14 PSI is where we are setting these pumps up at now. Mine is at 14 and can pull it down to 11.5 WOT. This is fine. Will not hurt anything. VP's are not a hard pump to keep up with. The VP was set up to run at 14-15 PSI. YOu want more pressure, we have a spring that will put you up to 20 PSI if you want. Just let your dealer know its the "Old Style PS-1002 Spring". I think they are $3 IIRC........
Is more pressure going to hurt anything? If 14psi is standard then I guess it will be ok. I got the pump from Gus @ farmboys diesel. Is he the person I should be calling about the leak?
OK, we got the FASS HPFP installed. Gutted the in-tank pump and put in a suction line.
Now the fuel pressure readings are;
Commander at idle 9psi (before FASS it was 5)
Mechanical guage at idle 13psi (before FASS it was 9)
I feel more comfortable with the FASS, but still need the Commander issue settled.
I would still try to draw fuel out of a bucket and see if you get any improvement...should be about 17-18 for an HPFP. Especially since you modded the intank pump set up, just to make sure you have no restriction (OR sucking air).

As far as how much pressure is too high on the VP.....MAN...its anybody’s guess. You can find 100 different answers on here about that. I think there is more speculation on this than who killed JFK!! BUT i have yet to see any hard core evidence that shows major pump failure at pressure 20+ PSI. I see people running VP's upwards of 30-40 with no issue and see people running them at 13 with TONS of issues.....so who knows!?!? We don’t build VP-44's. We just set up our pumps for what people want them. My personal specs on the range of the VP is 5 PSI to 25 PSI. I got mine set up to 14 PSI...that is about SMACK dab in the middle.....and reckon it'll work just fine.
Drove the truck home just now and got 12-13psi at 60mph, and it drops to 8-9 at idle. This is on the Commander. Before the FASS it was at 1-2psi at 60 mph and 4-5 at idle. Now I need to update my signature line
