I was placeing an order today for some new gauges, and I figured I might as well order a new set of FASS filters "just in case" I needed them. Since I'm not going to be able to find them in any ole Pep Boy's in a pinch I figured it would be a good idea to have an extra set even though my FASS is only a couple of months old. Anyway ... When I ordered them I was asked if I wanted the Diesel Performance brand or Fleetguards. HUH ??? I thought my FASS came with Fleetguards to begin with. What the heck is the Diesel Performance brand? I was told that Diesel Performance filters are 10 micron and that the Fleetguards are 3 micron. For some reason I thought I remembered reading that you shouldn't try and filter diesel fuel below 5 micron so I went with the Diesel Performance brand. He said "OK, I just wanted to make sure you knew what you were getting because the Diesel Performance filters say Diesel Performance on them, not Fleetguard" even though he thought that Fleetguard made them for Diesel Performance. So what's the deal? Are your filters Fleetguards ort not? What are safe replacement filters to use? Thanks !!

Well, I just got the replacement filters and the lettering is green not red like what I currently have. The part numbers are : DP - FASS - FF - 1010 DP - WS - 1001 Do they sound correct? New question ... What's up with the Water Seperator Filter? I was under the impression that the seperator was just that, a water seperator. Is there actually a filter in there? Does it REALLY need to be replaced? I was under the impression the only the second cartrige did the actual filtering. Can you explain the actual filtering process a little better for me / us ? Thanks !!

FF - 1010 = 10um FF - 1003 = 3um WS - 1001 = 140um Water Sep. The WS is a prestrainer of sorts. Knocks down the chunks that can lock up the pump. You can, in most cases, clean and reuse this filter by back flushing with Gas or some sort of solvent. But most elect to replace it because its not very expensive and there is less effort involved. Flow order is Tank, WS, Pump, Fuel Filter and engine. This is why its important to get the WS tight before you prime...its on the suction side of the pump.
