Scrappy,
7100's aren't a must have but they are a good performing shock that are valved for this type of application. There are lots of people running 2 or even 3 5100 shocks on custom lifts and its obviously not for performance, handling, off road abuse but for looks. The kit we're installing has a dual shock mount up front and the customer opted to get a great quality shock.

wait till you all see the rear done...

So, yesterday started off all bad. The shock spacers left WAY too much slop, like 3/8". Kelderman's solution - shim it with 1/2" washers. I don't think so! So, I grabbed some 1" aluminum rod and starting machining new spacers for both upper and lower mounts. Got about 10 hrs into it, but its worth it!

More Bad. Kelderman installed the wrong fittings in the rear bags. Said if we wanted them faster than ground it was on us. Like hell! We got them local and they said they would reimburse us.

Next, no mention in the instructs of where the sway bar links mount to. A little looking online and there are some brackets they didn't ship us. Then they say, no, on 3500 trucks you remove the overload snubber, drill out the hole and mount the sway bar links there. Not my first call, but ok.

Bilstien didn't send us mounting provisions for one of the 7100 resoivors. Talk about awesome!! Called em up, told them whas was going on, "They are on their way red label" was the answer I got towards the end of a 3-4 minute call. OUTSTANDING!!

Playin on the lathe

While I working on that, Kenny and my little brother (Jamie) worked on the rest of the mechanical stuff -

Jamie eyeballing the lower link

Kenny working on something constructive I am sure Its the rear track bar.

Today, we got the spacers installed and got the rest of the parts hung. Also added a BD steering box stabalizer kit. All we have left is some wiring and a trip to the alignment shop!

Tomorrow I have more pictures and hopefully a finished product.

Well it's almost done. Truck went to alignment shop and is back. Now it just needs the auto ride sensors mounted and wired in. Those dual compressor's sound awesome. Not high pitched and whiny but kinda deep, sounds like a big bomber airplane to me... Hopefully Jason will have more pics on Sunday or Monday

In response to the shock question - When using an air spring you rely much more on your shocks to control the bounce and rebound. With an air spring, you only have enough spring to support the weight currently on the spring, whereas with a traditional spring you have enough spring to support the vehicle and cargo. Even with the duals, the shocks do produce a decent amount of heat on our test drives, however we don't have the smoothest roads around our shop.

More pictures to come, but for now its back to work on our other projects.

Compressor box completed and installed.

BD Steering Box Stabilizer

Little bit of a tight fit to get it off the rack with those 22.5's. I think we had about an inch and a half of clearance on the tires after we added the 1/4" wheel spacers to clear the wheels on the suspension.

And here it is, ready for the trip to the alignment shop!

I have to see where the rest of the pictures went. I know we have some of it after we got it back from the alignment shop and set up the auto ride control. Now the truck has 3 preset levels, 4", 6" and about 8". The picture above is about 4" of lift.

Thanks guys! It was alot of work, but it came out amazing. And the ride quality was unreal! Even with the 22.5's it rode like a half ton!
