Wheel Detail That Was Insane

Well ... Believe it or not ... these are MY wheels. Yes ... The detailing guy had his wheels just about ruined.

First off ... At the end of last year, I got SUPER busy with other stuff, and just plain lazy, and I did not pull my wheels and put the stock ones on for winter. Even though my truck does not move during winter ... unfortunitly, it does not fit in the garage. (Thats right ... For everyone that thinks its a garage queen ... its not) Winter took a HUGE toll on the wheels ... the salt, the snow, etc.

Secondly ... It seems as if some vandalized my wheels ... It seems as if something VERY acidic was put on them, which causes a TON of oxidation, and some pitting in some areas ... The weather was nice enough today to pull them, and go to town. Total time was about 6 hours ... and pictures honestly do NOT do justice. I wanted to take more pictures ... but time was an issue since I had a water line bust in the house, and that needed attention ASAP

Process
Pull wheels, hose down

DP Exterior Cleanse-All - Agitate with brush (Twice)

Pinnacle Gel Wheel Cleaner - Agitate with brush (Twice)

Eagle One Nano Chrome Polish w/ "0000" Steel Wool (Done two seperate times for each wheel)

Mothers Chrome Polish via Powerball Mini (Twice for each wheel)

Sealed with DP Wheel Glaze (2 coats ... Each Wheel)
Total Time ... 6 Hours

I did the best I possible could with them. It was a HUGE turn around ... and took a long of time, and honestly wore me out. Im tired, my back is killing me, and my head is pounding

Again ... They are much better, and a HUGE improvment ... but still not 100% "like new" and never will be. There is some "slight" pitting left inside the "holes" that cannot be fixed. Part of this is from me not pulling them this year ... and part of whoever/whatever got put on my wheels (Tires were not even addressed since I had NO time ... So dont pay mind to the various polishes all over the rubber ... Ill take care of that this week)

Pics
Before (This is AFTER chemically cleaning them, and agitating with brush. All brake dust has been removed ... this is how bad they were, and the reason I know for a fact this much damage was not done from sitting through one winter ... something else happened to my wheels)

Side By Side (One before ... One After ... This is before the two coats of wheel glaze ... so they are a bit shinyer now)

Two Rear Finished

One More

I wanted to get a picture of all four done together ... but again ... short on time for pictures ...

As always all comments, questions, critisim welcomed ... and thanks for looking

-Mike

Sorry to hear that someone decided to take it out on your wheels and that cost you some time and money in supplies..but they look real good. Maybe since the weather is clearing up you will get to take that baby out on the road some more...

Do you think it could have been cause of leftover brake dust or are you sure someone hosed them with something?

No because the truck was detailed all year last year, and right before winter hit.

DUDE!
Next year just put a very heavy coat of mothers on them and don't take the polish off.

I use to live North of Pitts by Slippery Rock, went to school at PSU behrend in Erie. i have polished alums on my old truck.

I also would use a 4" disc grinder with a hard benchgrinder polishing wheel.
10000 rpm of polishing power gets it done fast. Just wear something over your eyes and nose.

It depends on how far the aluminum is gone. I would recommend looking into Wolfgang polishes, and wool polishing pads for aluminum

Nice Job Mike!!! Those things were trashed! Definately looks like someone may have hit them with something, either that or the salt really did a number on em. Either way...NICE turnaround!!!
