Any way to fixed yellowed Sport headlights?

Well the right side head light on my sport truck is yellow/oxidized or whatever you want to call it.

However, the left side is completely clear, don't really get it.

Is there any way to get the light clear again or will I have to buy a new assembly?

What kind of product should I use and where do you find it at?

I used some polishing compound on one the other day, don't know if it was the right thing to do but it worked.

i used a plastic polishing compound on mine and a buffing wheel on a drill and it cleaned them right up but it does come back

i thought it was the mag chloride being used on the roads in the winter that does this?

John

There is a factory seal on the headlights that gets chipped off then allows for the plastic to turn yellow from the sun etc. best thing to do is just buff it once and a while.

Have you ever used the plastic cut out sheets /protective film (static cling?) that go over the headlights, or used headlight shields? I think there is a company that sells this somewhere. I do not have any experience with the product or know anyone who has used them. I do see in the NASCAR pit crews peeling off protective layers of their driver's windshield. I guess it works similiar fashion? Anyone have any input on such a product?

they make refinish kits for plastic headlamps. comes with different grades of sand paper and sealer with applicator. if you take your time they work well. $20-$30.

all that plastic they are peeling off is for dirt/rubber/whatever else can get on the windshield and blur it up and cause an accident.

One of the easiest ways to remove the yellow off of composite headlights is Mother's Mag wheel and Aluminum wheel polish. Its a gritty white paste that allows for easy removal of the yellowing without damaging the plastic.Once it has been polished to suit your needs use a hard paste wax(I prefer Blue Coral or Simoniz) and give it a couple of coats. They should last like that for some time. Its a trick I learned years ago at Mother's seminar when the composite headlights were getting to be standard equipment......Andy

Hammer nailed it. (no pun intended) Mothers mag polish works great. Once you get them clear again try the headlight covers Geno's garage sells they are a little spendy, but they fit great. FYI have plenty of time to install them there a little tricky but look great. I put them on my brand new 2008. FYI use a hair dryer not a heat gun like the instructions say to use. The heat gun will get them to hot and may burn them if your not really careful. Hope this helps!!
