cleaning chrome wheels??
I clean my chrome wheels all the time and they have small rust looking spots all over them and I can't get it off. The wheels aren't even a year old. I used turtle wax chrome polish and a lot of elbow greese but I still can't get them to look brand new. Does anybody have anything like this and what should I do to get that brand new mirror look back.

I believe when that happens the brake dust had already got the finish in those spots. A friend of mine when he's finished cleaning and drying his rims, he sprays WD-40 on a rag and wipes the rims down with that. It puts a little protective brake dust barrier on them between washes. Give that a try to keep the rims from getting worse.

any major wheel company should warrenty against pitting! go back to the dealer where purchased them and see if they will cover them.

once the pitting starts it only gets worse if not constantly maintained. I have had luck with bronze wool with a wet wheel. Try that, don't rub excessivly hard or you'll leave some scratch marks. Be sure to dry and wax the wheels. There are shops that can triple chrome them.$$$ anyway good luck

Once pitting starts, they need to be kept up with to stop the pitting from getting any worse. Try some "0000" steel wool, and see how this does. Wolfgang also makes very good polishes that are highly abrasive, that do a very good job at polishing metal. Those combined with a wool buffing pad is a great combination. Keep up with a good quality chrome polish (I recommend using the power ball mini when applying) followed by a high quality wheel wax. -Mike

I also use a TON of there s&w, as it is FANTASIC stuff As for thier metal polishes, I prefer wolfgang over them ... wolfgang has more abrasives, and finishes down better for an LSP. I really like DP Wheel Glaze/Wax as an LSP on wheels -Mike

With my chromies the best thing I found for cleaning / polishing was the Mother's Powerball. But if you use it...break out the power drill...it kills batteries faster than anything ![]() Had a chrome cleaner that got all the brake dust off the front then followed up w/ a polish / protector.
