Couple questions about detailing my Truck?

The weather if finally starting to get warmer and I'm going to do a complete detailing of my truck to get all the winter salt and sand off it.

First question

1. My truck see's a lot of salt and i mean A LOT and my frame is starting to get quite rusty. I was wondering if I should scrap all the rust off and paint it or should I undrcoat it later in the summer/ fall?? I'd rather have longevity instead of cleaness. Whats gonna save my frame from rusting out?

Second

2. I'll be washing, clay barring and then waxing my truck shortly and i have some mild swirl marks on it and was wondering what i can do/use to get rid of them before i wax it. Some names of products would be awesome to.

Any advice would appreciated

Thanks

Paul

I was surprised to see that Meguires Scratch X actually removed swirl marks. I don't think it is designed to do that but it did work. Give it a try on a small area and see what happens for you. Good luck!

Yeah a good soap will make everything a whole lot easier. I use a complete Meguiars Detailing kit, and it works wonders. I will say that the interior spray that comes with the kit doesn't work very well though! So for the interior I use the Turtle Wax F21 Protectant spray and it REALLY works great and it smells good too! Also with the f21 spray I use it to keep the plastic on the outside of my trucks nice and shiny, because they will fade fast if you don't. Nothing looks worse than a nice clean truck with nasty faded plastic! Good luck again.

When using the claybar, TAKE YOUR TIME! Your end result of a claybar is going to be 100% dependent on how much time you took to do it, and how much attention to detail was given to the truck.

Go to LANE and check out their products, they have some awesome cut products that take out swirls marks and the cherry wet wax is awesome.

meguiars swirlx is a decent deal. use a foam applicator after claybar...then finish with a good wax. machine polish works great, but the swirlx does a great job of that without machine. ive used it many times by hand with good success.

if the frame is rusting, just hit it with some durable spray paint. thats serious steel, should be ok for quite a while. if you can, a liner like line-x may be ideal.

For soaps, meguiars gold class shampoo is good foamy stuff on the cheap. The nxt2.0 they sell is decent wax as well. I like to use Klasse AIO, Menzerna glaze, then poorboys blue paste wax on all my cars. For some people, thats too many steps, but to me, the end result is well worth it!

For off the shelf discount stuff, i prefer the meguiars, seems like better quality ingredients are used compared to most typical stuff off the shelf. The nxt2.0 has a really nice reflective property to it as well.
