Got in a race last night
Without going into great detail, there are some folks that congregate in a place with a wide road and no traffic on Saturday nights to do some smack talking and racing. Some of my buddies went and set up a race between me and a young guy with a mid 90's jacked up chevy 1/2 ton 4wd. This guy had been doing brakestand burnouts (in a safe area away from people) and just generally showing out. I had a bottle in the truck last night, and I was itching to try a 3rd gear launch with the nitrous. Turns out, it works pretty well. I flatfooted it with the clutch in, free revving it against the limiter. That gets it to about 3500. When the flagger signaled us, I let out the clutch and sprayed it. It spun until probably 35 mph or so, then hooked up and really got moving. All I had to do was shift into 4th, instead of trying to deal with the ever-problematic 2-3 shift that never seems to go right in a race. I briefly went into 5th near the end, but it really wasn't necessary. I wasn't watching the guy I was racing, but some folks told me I had 8 or 9 truck lengths on him at the end. The bad thing was, I have a couple car spare tires in the bed and a gm turbo 350 tranny sitting on one of them. I didn't feel like taking it out last night, so I just slid it back against the tailgate so it wouldn't bang against the tailgate.
