$1300 for a pair, not cheap at all

Am I thinking right, when you say splined on both ends with a drive flange??

Is the axle 1 solid shaft with splines on both ends 1 for rearend 1 for drive flange? Then the drive flange slides over the splines to bolt onto the hub?

pretty much, the CTM's have some type of spring loaded snap ring that holds the shaft in the flange so it can be assembled as one piece.

heres some pics- i have comparison pics somewhere of them side by side with a stock shaft so you can see how much bigger they are. but this shows the shafts and the minispool from haisley as well.

the 70 runs 1 1/2" axles like all 1 tons do. you do gain strength in the pinion shaft with the 80 and of course you get much better brakes. why do you think the 80's axle shafts are any stronger?

its the bigger pinion you want but you just move the weak leak down...so they are putting harder axle's in

Dana 80 axles and Dana 70 are identical 1.5" diameter w/ 35 splines. The Dana 70 is really a 70/80 hybrid. The center section is the same size, the axles are the same, the axle tubes are the same size untill right before the drum then it tapers down. The only real difference is the differential is a two piece that has smaller ring gear hardware, and a 10.5" ring gear. Where as the 80 is a one piece design with a 11" ring gear, and much stronger pinion gear.

check these out I have more but this is the basic info with comparison.
also a 14 bolt is not stronger than a 70 or 80, see link below.

those are max output torque allowed.
