Cost estimate.

I got my nice white super duty you know... wonderful 6.0 great engine just the HEUI system leaves alot to be desired in the power department.

go on powerstroke forums and look up dyno numbers....

I get....

decent numbers on fuel... 500 or so HP

I go on a cummins board and I get... huge power numbers, like its nothing.

YouTube - Redstroke (Adam Cornell) Burn Out

this makes me want to do the swap so bad.

I wonder what a cost estimate would be to drop a common rail motor under my hood.

Before you say buy a dodge thats not a option. I like my Ford.

depends on how much you want to spend, plus the conversion cost, a good low mileage cummins engine is gonna run you around 5k then the modifications to make it fit under the hood of your blue oval... take all of this into consideration.....

Hey bro its been done before it just depends on how much you wanna throw at it. You pick up a 12 valve motor for cheap and the conversion would be much easier. If you wanna go with the CR your gonna spend 5k or so on the motor. What are you planning on using for a tranny? If you stay with the ford tranny your gonna need an adapter plate, Stand alone computer or have the computer re-programmed. All these things can add up quickly. Also, are you doing the work yourself?

I would like to use the 48re for ease of use.

thats another thing im going from a 5 speed to a 4 speed. so there are some dash items that I would need to change.

mating it up to the transfer case and making it all work. thats another.

Im not looking at insane horsepower like 1300.

800 would be nice and the ability to shift that down on the fly electronically would be nice. I can hit 800 in my 6.0 but how long it will hold is another question. 7.3 blocks tend to bust at higher HP. 12 valves are great motors and a relatively easy swap (no electronics i think its like 3 cables you have to hook up) but the ability to turn the power down without popping the hood is what I want.

the biggest con other than the headache this swap is gonna give me is the loss of the 6.0 they sound so sweet straight piped.

I personally havent done the CR swap but I know that there are a few guys on comp d that have done it as well as cummins-conversion.com. If nobody on here can answer your question Im sure there are guys on those sites that have done it and can get into serious depth about what all is involved.

If you use a 04.5-05 CR I believe there are only 3 wires to make it run. Basically you don't even use the ford's harness. You use the accessory wires for the a/c and use the ford's a/c compressor I believe. If I still had my 05 ford I would do exactly what you are talking about, but I traded it for a dodge. you could still retain your 5r110 also. Aden at GOS performance has one in his. once he got it tuned to shift properly he loves it. You could contact him for info as well. As far as the cost portion, 4500=5k for an engine, around 2 grand in engine adapter, billet flex plate, PCS stand a lone controller, and engine mounts. You can retain your 6.0 starter with a destroked.com plate. So with you doing the swap plan on spending at least $7500-what ever you want to spend.

It's easy, just come up with a parts list with all the $ listed. Add up the cost of parts. Then double it, since these swaps always get out of hand and you'll spend at least twice as much $ as you budget.

IMO...They are both great motors....The 6.0 have a head gasket problem but that can be fixed, some injectors and a sct programmer will get you 500 hp(with a built tranny). The CR is a easy hp motor and durable. Trans wise I would go with a BTS tranny with the cummins, great tranny and cheaper.
