Cummins in a Ford?
Hey guys, I'm thinking of putting a cummins in my '96 F-250 and was in need of some of your input. What is going to be the best powerplant for me to start with(year and size)? From what I have read and heard is that the cummins is going to yield a lot more power. I'm thinking about building it up over the next year and a half and then putting it in but need to do A LOT of research and planning. Thanks for all your help guys

the 12v is the simplest of the cummins and easiest/cheapest to build up, to a certain point.

Commonrail is far from difficult (no more than a 12V) and there is no reason for the painless wiring harness unless the engine you purchase comes without one. I chose a commonrail because I could get a New crate engine with zero miles. Also you have an engine that can easily make 400+hp with nothing but a programmer box or tuner.

I was going to repower my 96 F-350 until my ex took it from me ![]() I started out wanting to do a 12v because of the simplicity but then thought about how cool it would be to have a CR in there. I'd like to do a CR swap someday if I buy another F-350, but that's me.

If you go the 12V route I would talk to Joe at Hellmann Performance. 12V's are his bread and butter.

Go with a 12V fairly cheap and get a rebuild kit for nothing if you want to make the engine like brand new. Also with little money you can be making 500hp no problem but get studs for sure.
