Great buy DM, We have the Power pup box from Bullydog on the 04.5 and it has a code clear deal on it , never tried it yet but will check it out some day
AS I asked over on TDR, what does that gizmo do, other than ability to actually remove fault codes, that the dash error code readout doesn't already do?

Gary, the OBDII will plug into the data port under the steering column and retrieve all codes stored in the Puter, then it will also erase the troubled code so you can be on yer way............far as I know........ya know? Not all codes are retrievable by the 3 key method
It's amazing what you can do with a high quality tool,,,,, what you can see and do on the inside. Most of your cheap scan tools just turn the light off, and give you the code. Knowing the code is the easy part,,, knowing what to check and diag. the code is the hard part,,,, which I think is the fun part.
It's also very funny the amount of stuff people will lie about when trying to geto something taken care of. There is info call freeze frame data, which is recorded and storted when certain code's are caused,,, I.E. engine load, RPM, VS, fuel trims, run time, engine coolant temp, intake air temp, timing, and many more.
oh,, and btw you have to watch and make sure the tool will work, newer car's are starting to use a CAN system (central area network) run's much faster. and you have to have one that will read can. just something to keep in mind for those of you who want to more.

Code readers are entertaining, but if they don't give much more data than what the codes are, I personally find them useless. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but there are many ways to set the same code, and without a tool to run the system diag, show the parameter ID's, watch the sensors & what they're seeing & telling, all the code does is tell you where to start the pinpoint test at.
Some are more obvious than others, but some codes take some work to figure out.
But that's the mechanic in me talking.......

That's pretty much the way I see it too - maybe I'm just ignorant of the deeper and more detailed info they can provide.
But if I get a CES light, and then do the dash check for codes - and get the SAME indications the OBD gadget provides, what have I gained?
For instance, if a OBD or dash error codes simply states there is an error with low voltage to/from the MAF sensor, is the problem IN that sensor - or the device before or after it - or somewhere else entirely?
That OBD thing had BETTER either give more DETAILED info, or provide well-proven CURES for what the codes indicate, otherwise, the user is still left with a long trail of guesswork, trial and error.

My CEL seems to have the potential opf poping up ,,, because of stupid things I may do ...LOL ... when it does i have to sit there and look at the CEL and wonder whats going on or what happened till I see an auto zone to get it cleared ,,,, and most of the time they do it so fast that I cant even see what the codes were.... heck one place charged me $40 to clear my codes and all the dealers want atleast $35 to do it ,,,,
This way Im my own warentee station I see my CEL pop up I whip the Scanner on see what screwed up ,,,clear it and there ya go '
I know for a fact that csevers carrys one with him in his truck to clear codes set by his stacked boxes
Yeah I could of got the real cool ~$500 snap on fancy one ... but I really just wanted my own scanner and the abillity of not haveing to relay on anyone else
DM
BTW advanced auto has the same scanner on sale for $99 right this second
Remember all I can get in the 2002 is the stupid companion code thats it with out a scanner you dont know what happened or why
Chad, with my '99 I can't even get codes on the dash display, so I hear where you're coming from.
I like to wrench on my own stuff, wrench on other people's stuff, etc and having a real diagnostic scan tool, IMHO is better for my needs.
I still would've bought the billet fuel door. j/k

Well Chad, I'm mildly interested in one, just because I love electronic gadgets - let us know what you think of yours in areas other than simply clearing codes - is the code reference section any more detailed and helpful than what I pointed to further up above, or are the error messages sorta cryptic, and still leave you scratching your head wondering what the problem really is?
