It's a west Texas truck. We don't have to worry about trucks rusting out much here. The only reason the corners rusted out are because it had a bunch of dirt in it with now windows. Just held the rain in those corners

Should be a nice one of a kind project. The 12v will be easy to wire, in Texas it probably won't be cold enough for the gridheater so you won't have to worry about that.

Have you done a rewire using the stock harness. I have both wiring harnesses from the '97 and '04. Debating if I should start fresh using a harness from Painless or try to use the original

For the engine you can get a 1 wire alternator from PAPERFORMANCE, it's a exact replacement. Then for the fuel shut down you can use a cable or the factory is just a key on hot, a start hot and a ground.
Basically that's all the engine wiring is needed, other than the starter. If you need the gridheater I have a simple solution for that.

I really don't think I need the grid heater. It rarely gets down to the teens here. The fuel shut down solenoid is acting up so I was planing on going to a cable there any way. I might need a new alternator anyway. The fuse between the leads from the alternator is blown. Not sure if it's cause the alternators bad or if something else caused it to blow. Unfortunately not going to get the transmission mounted pulled both apart to switch everything over and decided to get a new clutch and bearings while it's all off and easy to do. Can't decide if I want a dual disk or single. Probably just stick with a good single.

Then all you really need is just a wiring harness for the truck, lights, wiper, heater and whatever.

Make sure you use the same big battery cables or your starter won't work right.

The stock clutch will handle alot Clutch Kit Options for Dodge Cummins Turbo Diesel Pickups | Phoenix Friction this is where I got my last clutch assembly.

Finally getting to make a little progress. Did the KDP fix

I got all the wires, steering column, ac system, and pedals pulled from my donor truck. I have quiet a bit of work to do on the front clip to get everything to fit. Also going to have to change up the the floor to make room for the NV5600.

Did you also check the timing case bolts, they have also been known to loosen and come out.

Your making some good progress.

No sir I sure didn't. I am pretty new to the 12 valve and wish I knew more about the engine as a whole. All I know is the basics. I am not a big poster on her but I try to read a lot. Thanks for the help and suggestions.

txag10 that's gonna be an awesome truck man and I love hearing about the vehicles that have sentimental value. Also have you got plans for the bed? I've always thought it'd be cool to make a semi style truck with wheel wells and a cleaned up frame. But I'm keeping up with this build man keep it up.

I am planning on building a new skirted flat bed with a wood deck. I am going to tray to incorporate the original bed frame into it. I agree with you in the semi style truck. They look pretty awesome. On this truck I just really want it to look like it did when my grandfather used it on the farm. We have an old 1955 ford f5 I believe is what it is that was used as a winch truck. It would be pretty cool as a semi type.

Heck yeah man being that it was in the family like you said so long I would keep the same as well. Either way such an old truck and with the Cummins its gonna turn a lot of heads. Keep it up and I will be following!
