putting Cummins in 2003 Ford, HELP

here is the truck im going to buy as soon as mine sells, it has a melted 6.0 with a 6 speed manual, what all is going to be involved in puttin a common rail into it? i would LIKE to put an automatic in it! is that possible or would that be too hard? also which transfercase should i use, the one already in the ford, or get one out of a dodge to go with the motor and trans? what all needs to be done with the wiring harness, is there a way to use at least some of the factory ford gauges? i want to make this a clean swap with a common rail and auto, will that be too hard? or should i just get a cummins that has an ecm and harness for a manual and reuse the 6 speed thats already in the ford?

Thanks,
Andrew

your best bet would be to get a donor truck so that u have everything. the easiest thing would be to keep the manual. putting the auto is possible. depending on how u hook it up will be very diddcult. If you want the shifter on the column u will need to install a steering column out of and auto, or i think that u might be able to buy a ratchet shifter for it.

I would go to destroked get and adapter plate for ur zf6 and bolt the cummins to that. Alot less headache. my $.02

i say the nv5600 is a better trans. Though a friend of mine has a zf6 with a 5.9 bolted to it with 600hp and seems to be holding fine so far. before the 5.9 he had 2 powerstrokes blowup that were putting out 450hp. The only thing he has done to the trans was a dual disk clutch with pliot and throw out bearing

I had a nv56 for 130,000 miles in my 04 dodge, it was my favorite manual tranny and I have had a couple zf six speeds. I am using one now in my 08 550.

I have a 2000 ford short crew and a 2005 short crew I will sell, 05 has been wrecked, and the 2000 has miles on it. I have a core 2007 5.9 to help fab the mounts and both trucks have automatic trannys.
I dont have time to to the swap right now.
