cummins repower!

hey guys, im a soon-to-be cummins repower in my 86 chevy pickup. i just had a few real quick questions on transmissions and t-cases...hopefully yall could help me out....i have a 93 cummins im fixin to put in my truck but i was wondering...

1. is there a dodge (cummins) overdrive tranny that ever had an np205 behind it?

2. what other auto (cummins) trannys had np205s behind them?

3. are bellhousings different between a cummins and dodge gas motors?

4. how difficult is it to put in a 6 speed from an 06 cummins?

5. any suggestions....

i know i could get an adapter from the cummins to my th400 but after looking at the cost i could probably just put a dodge tranny behind it and have overdrive for close to the same price.....THANKS GUYS!!

1. I believe so, but can't properly validate.
2. see 1.
3. Yes, most definitely. The starter location is different, as is the bolt locations.
4. You would need the proper adapter, as the manuals use a different adapter plate than the autos, then the obvious pedal and hydraulic clutch setup to deal with. Not to mention, from what I heard, the parts are hard to come by if needed as New Venture is no more...
5. Suggestions... find a first gen trans and t-case,a s they still had the output shaft for the front on the same side as your Chevy. I don't know what year they changed, but the later cases match Fords.

You can use a NP205 transfer from a 1st gen Dodge with a Getrag 5 speed and bolt it up to a 2nd gen Dodge NV4500. You would need the 2nd gen Dodge bellhousing adapter, bellhousing, flywheel, starter, etc. Advance Adapters can possibly supply parts to change the GM NP205 to the Dodge style round input so you can use it. Or you could just use the 1st gen Dodge Getrag 5 speed and NP205 combo but the trans is not as strong. I used a Dodge NV4500 and installed a GM output shaft and tailhousing. It bolted to my NP208 in my 1986 Chevy M1008. I would post some pictures but I have problems making them fit the size limits.

number 1: yes, the 91.5-93 automatics A518 was an OD that mated to a np205.
