Got the 14bolt Gm Corp dually rear out from under the 79', had to let the crusher yard cut the U-bolts. I only losend 2 nut before pulling a muscle in my back The hot wrench is soooooo much faster/easier. Unfortunatly I forgot to grab the under-axle plates and left them on the ground

Got the front clip disected and pulled (tip; have a friend help you so you don't have to pull the damned thing in 6 pieces!) and guess what... NO RUST!!!!

Took some pics from the front so ya'll could see my clearence, or lack thereof. Tell me what you think, does the 2wd have more/less room than the 4wd? or is it about the same?

I took this pic because it's the 1st midwest 70's Ford I've seen that didn't rust here on the inner fender shoulder mount or have siezed bolts.

you can reduce them in photobucket. It's been so long since I've done it that I forgot how - but when you bring in the pictures you can pick how bit you want them to be.

Nice work on the truck - good to have yet another being started

I'll try that.

Also I've been looking at several of the 73-79 builds here and have yet to find 1 with the ac/heater box still intact, is there room there?

Just got back from the crushers (to retrieve my U-bolt plates) and found a nice suprise. Besides the plates he had waiting for me I found a 79' sitting in the back lot with a near perfect grill shell. I also saw a good grill with 1 repairable crack for $25. I'm going back tomorrow or saturday.

Does anyone know if the heat element (pre heater) is stand alone or do i need a switch to mount in the cab?

I originally wanted to put AC in mine but the turbo is in the way of the box. So I actually found a nice alternative. I bought a junker that had dealer installed AC and everything fits behind the glove box and only two heater hose sized lines run out the firewall. I still havent had time to install it and with winter coming it will have to wait till next year.

I have a buddy who has a 4bt in a 77 2wd. He claims that the steering linkage on the 2wd is too tight to fit a 6bt in because the linkage is behind the crossmember. You will probally have to mount a different steering box up front to clear everything.

I really like this build, I wanted an extended cab but I couldn't find a nice one at the time I was starting on mine.

Got it! and as if that weren't good enough I spied a perfect hood! While carrying the hood to the truck and trying to avoid loader tracts I spotted a 70's crew dually with the front disc hubs intact.

Square headlight grill assembley (everything!) $25
Hood $20
Front hubs with rotors $50 (going back when it dries)
All told I spent $95 - $37 for the motor/trans (scrap) my parts cost $58!!

OHHH! SNAP!!

What a great day to lay in the mud!

I'm going to see what I can do about the steering, 1 thing I thought of. Since I'm swapping front hubs I might see if I can swap spindles, then try a GM 2wd steering box. I have access to plenty of those.

If I can gain some room on that side maybe I can still fit beside the ac box.

Your junkyards out west are incredible compared to what we have here. Looks like quite a bit of nice, mostly rust free 70's parts. Here near Chicago your in business if your looking for parts for your early 90's japanese sedan otherwise your out of luck.

Keep up the good work on the truck.
