1965 Ford Crewcab 12 valve conversion
Well i finally started my swap. I picked up this truck about a year ago in Washington. I drove it to Alaska and could not pass a gas station. The PO had put in a 460. I decided to put in a Cummins. I found a 93 D250 in the state and got to work. The 65 is four wheel drive with a remote transfer case. I pulled the motor out of the 93 then pulled the 65 in the shop a few weeks later. ![]() ![]() I got the motor stuck in there to figure out what needs to come out. ![]() The rear cross member and old engine mounts had to go. A little torch and grinder work and they are gone. ![]() That was it for today. Next I have to figure out the motor mounts. Last edited by carhartted : 03-29-2009 at 02:08 AM. |

Today I made some motor mounts. Here is what I have to start with. ![]() I made a cardboard template of what I wanted to do. Also pictured is the polyurethane leaf spring bushing that will hopefully absorbed some vibration and flex. ![]() I scribed the template onto a piece of 1/4 inch plate. Torched it out and ground the edges smooth. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I needed to make a cutout for the tube that will hold the bushings. The first one was made with the torch and grinder. The rest of them were made with a hole saw. ![]() ![]() ![]() Here is the difference between the hole saw and the torch and grinder method. ![]() ![]() I cut a piece of tube to fit the bushing. This is when I found out that I made a mistake. The tube and bushing needs to mount to the frame not the engine. Oops. So I made some more pieces following the method above. ![]() ![]() ![]() Here is the final product of today's effort. ![]() ![]() I need to get some measurements for the radiator clearance and then I will be welding the motor mounts in. I also need to figure out the angle of the motor. Last edited by carhartted : 01-18-2009 at 02:41 AM. |

65-66 is a different body style/generation than the 69 like Mark's. The 65-66 is the rarest of these trucks as truely only a few were made, and were all custom order as far as I have been told. Mark is doing a 67-72 body style which is rare, but not near as rare as this thing. My 74 (73-79 body style) is even less rare - haha

Me too. I chose to stick with the stock rubber mounts due to the vibration in these motors. My feeling is that with the rigidity of poly bushings the load will be transfered to the mount itself and the weld and will rip the mounts off the frame. But both Mark and the original poster here are doing the poly - so I am interested to see how they hold up.
