Tractor Repower

Hopefully, this post is in the right forum. If not, will the moderator or someone on this forum please direct it to where it should be posted. I live in central Texas and live on a farm. I have a 70 H.P. Farmall diesel tractor that a 282 cu. in. motor that has a great future as a boat anchor. I am wanting to replace it with a Cummins 4B.I can't use a 4BT due to interference from my front end loader arms with a turbo mounted on the engine. The length of my frame rails won't let me use a 6B. I have found an adapter kit with flywheel and clutch components, along with the front engine mounts from 2 suppliers. I am searching for a 4B that will develop 70-80 H.P. so as not to overtax my tranny, gearbox, and rear axle on the tractor. A rebuilt 4B is what I am trying to find. Unfortunately, I know just enough to be dangerous about what I need to ask for in my search. I have been asked what CPL do I need. All I know for certain is that I need a 4B set up for agricultural use. If someone on this forum could tell me what setup I need to get the right engine I would certain be grateful. Thanks for any info anyone can provide!

I moved you into the 4bt section.

What if you took the turbo off a bt and turned it around, exhaust would just come out the front. On a tractor your probably just going up with the exhaust.

I used to work on 4 bt's in offroad equipment and never saw a 4 cly Cummins with no turbo.

We've always called them 4B3's and I've only ever seen a handful in small vehicles like airport shuttles and sweepers.

Would it be possible to mount the turbo elsewhere? It does not need to be near the engine and will be much easier to find.

If not searching for Cummins 3.9 or 4B3 is your best bet.

If it was flipped around it wouldn't be hanging past the manifold much.

They make turbo kits for cars and i've seen them mounted at the rear of the car.

Some of the old Case W11 wheel loaders and skid steers used a 4B nonturboed Cummins engine.
