California diese smog requirments!!!! EVERYONE SHOULD READ THIS!!!

Alright ladies and gents, as you know California being such a wonderful place is going to start requiring smog checks in 2010 on the newer diesel trucks. Here is a website with some info stating what will be looked at

http://www.bar.ca.gov/80_BARResource...eduresVer5.pdf

Here is the gentleman that is running the show, in an interview he stated that he was suprised at how little of a response he has gotten from diesel owners.

I have called and asked a ton of questions and the tuff questions get the "its good for the earth" answer, I urge everyone to call and raise absolute hell! whether your truck is going to fit in their guidelines or not, we shouldnt go down with out a fight.

OBDII Test

Diesel Vehicles will be subject to the OBD test......Diesel vehicles with the CAN protocol will be temporarily excluded from the OBDII portion of the test.
This is good news so far...
I also noticed the fail to mention anything about a sniffer. So it looks like the test is entirely visual and OBD. So that means we are only subject to the smoke test, as our trucks are CAN equipped as far as I know so we are exempted from the OBD check (for now). That means no dyno check, no sniffer. Just a visual check and you pass? (pending everything is in place and you don't smoke)

The snap test smoke thing is subject to a lot of opinion on the part of the smog guy... all hail the cool smog guy!!!

Heck with the right equipment and paperwork I could setup a smog shop in my warehouse.

Reportedly,Edge has submitted their equipment to CARB for approval. I left a message with a Bank's salesguy I'd dealt with and asked if they were seeking approval, but got no response. Smarty, while downloaded obviously won't pass.

That was one of my questions to jack@#$ thats putting this thing together, what happens If I disagree with what the smog tech says. Of course, I got a "beat the bush" answer and then he quickly had to "leave for a meeting"

I think the checks apply to 98 and newer diesels so the truck in your sig should be safe.

I am not sure if it will apply to us, but I believe all new vehicles are exempt for the first 6 years to the original owner. So I believe the newest vehicles they could require to pass the tests available in 2010 are 2003 model year and older. That is of course if you bought it new.
That is of little help to many, but I remember reading that somewhere. I will see if I can find it.
