Any reason no one is using the 275/70R22.5 tires? They are about an inch wider than the 255/70 and about 38" tall.

Well, the 255/70s are easier to find and the cost is cheaper. I don't know of anyone that has tried a 275/70, but Im going to say they will probably be to wide even at just 1" wider. One clearence issue is the rear leaf springs. You can just get a finger between the tire and leaf spring using a 255/70, so anything wider and its going to rub. Also, you would need a lift to help with clearence in the front and I believe the tires will still rub the control arms when turning. I know guys with lifts can clear much bigger tires, but the Alcoa wheel offset and the adaptors just dont allow enough room. Now, with that said they may fit perfect. Don't know, cause I haven't tried. The 255/70s just seem to be the best size for cost, fit, and without any problems over time.

now i had a offer to get 6 steelies to put an intake on this guys truck. i have not seen these 22.5's but he said they had some surface rust. they are free, if i clean em up myself are they worth it? if not how chewed up do the alcola alum. get in salt. worried given i live in AK. thanks!

Well, the steels are definitly worth it for an intake install. But, they are heavy. You will feel the extra weight and power loss that goes with them. They will work, but for the added loss in power and loss in braking, it's not worth the trouble. I just can't justify running 6 steel wheels. The Alcoas are fairly resistant to salt and have a tougher finish compared to most aftermarket wheels, but you have to keep them washed. If you run in salt, try to get it off as soon as you can. Over a period of time, the salt will pit and stain the finish. It's very hard to get the shine back.

What kinda success do yall have with the commercial tires in mud, now i know they wont do like my Firestone MTs, but im not mud boggin, but when we get 5 inches of rain, like we did tuesday, and i have to go out and check cows, it sure is muddy, not deep, but real slick. A family friend that rents one of our pastures has a F-450 2 door flatbed (V-10), and he runs whatever tires the new UPS trucks run, and he seems to have pretty decent traction off-road, but even though his is a 450, its gas and short, mines a lot heavier. Any info...opinions...
