flex plate and input shaft?
Right now I just purchased a torque converter and valve body for my 04.5 cummins. I believe I am looking at about 500hp or so and someday possibly more. I dont know if I should also purchase some more upgrades for the tranny because i have been looking around and many people say get a flex plate and input shaft as well. What to do?

Yep, you should do the input and the flexplate. I've got my truck at the shop getting a BD TC and VB. I'm also installing a billet input, SFI rated flexplate, and a deep pan.

I would do the input & int. shafts as well and if your 4x4 the output too. I have a friend that's been through 7 built transmissions in a 4x4 that makes over 1000 hp. I was riding with him one day when an input shaft snapped... felt like a non-event until we tore apart the trans. - wow, what a mess. IMO - buy a fully built trans from someone like NADP that comes with a warranty. Mine is all Goerend but wasn't built by Dave so I'm kinda on my own. The only thing I've damaged (knock on wood) is the overdrive primary retention ring. We pulled the OD and took it to a shop where they could compress the 800 lb spring to replace the broken ring. I'm making close to 1000 on the bottle and it goes through clutches pretty fast. I've had it freshened up once before and it's ready again. (new clutches, seals and clean the cases) I would also recommend a Mag 727DD pan...

Wow that truck is sick. haha I am not planning on making that much power though as of right now anyway because this crap is soooo addicting. I am looking at tops around 600hp and I do have a 4x4 but dont use it that much unless it snows or soon I think I might sled pull. So everyone on here and the threads I have read pretty much is telling me to go with a flex plate and input shaft. Any suggestions with what brands and prices?

The secret is knowing the limitations of your transmission and staying within them. I run 450HP through a stock 47RE and have for two years. I do not tow much or launch hard. Once I am rolling and in lock up I put the throttle down with out a problem. The input shafts are great but if you are not launching hard than you should not need one. The flex plate is a must if you are pulling the transmission anyway. My 2 cents

I was researching and what i got was the input shaft can ruin the TC if it goes bad thats the only reason i would want to get one. i wouldnt want to wreck my new TC. Other than that if you say it is only needed for boost launches then i wouldnt really need one? (i dont do boost launches i just jump on it to smoke out little jap. tuners haha)

"Jumping on it" and "rolling into it" are very different... get the billet shaft!
