Really? what engineering or fabricating experience do you have? If the design was feasible do you not think we would design and sell one?

I challenge anyone to design the kit and make it marketable. If there was money to be made do you not think someone would develop one? If its that easy why don't one of guys design and market one?

This one is going way off topic.

I personally suck at design.
Back in the late 70s, I had this go-cart made of 4x4s, some 8in or longer lag bolts, training wheels nailed down in the front and bicycle wheels out back. It also had a sweet bucket seat out of an old gremlin. We lived on the hills and knew we'd need a brake so I grabbed a long nail and 12in wood stake. Pounded the nail through the middle of the stake and then into the main support and engineered it to work like an e-brake. Found some electrical tape, wrapped the handle, then proceeded to pull it to the top of the street. Oh man, I thought I was the man! About 2/3s of the way down I was bookin' when a car came out from one of the side roads. So I veered off to the side and attempted to slow down by pulling the e-brake. Well the handle ground down a bit before dislodging itself from the chassis. All the while, I was also dealing with the soon-to be oncoming traffic, I attempted to move myself over a bit, steering it with me feets, when the right wheel started to do something similar to what we dodge owners call the "death wobble". Well at this time I knew it was time to egress the vehicle before it caught fire or something. Hey what did I know, I was like 10 or 11. Needless to say, I crashed into the gutter, tore my knee open on the steering/support mechanism, aka lag bolt which was about 4in too long and twisted my wrist while landing on the side of my head.
Since then, I've learned to accept that I'm more of a dreamer than a mechanical engineer. It somebody creates a short shift unit for us G56ers,, I'm in there, if not, well that's ok too.

no worries, I have replied to this thread so many times I was gonna leave it but you guys are persistent man!!!

Funny story Matman,

While we are off topic, story telling here is a good one that is short shifter related.

A few years back we had a gentleman calls us wanting to return the short shifter he ordered for his 01 Dodge. When asked what his reason for returning it was, he said "I can not see out the window when I am shifting and the shifting has tightened up" puzzled we probed into it a bit further. Can you figure out what he did? He installed his "short shifter" but did not re-install the shaft, he screwed his shift knob right onto the linkage shaft and was having to reach all the way down into the boot to shift gears. We thought about changing the name to the "short throw shifter" instead of just the "short shifter" but figured the odds of that happening again were pretty slim.

Don't even get me started on the guy who ordered the 6 spd clutch for his 5 speed transmission hoping to pick up a gear.

1031055 Short Shift - 2003-2004 Dodge 6-spd NV 5600

that is off the BD website. The G56 didn't come out till 05.5 and I believe they still use the same shifter today

Dave- How about the NV4500 kit? I have seen it available for up to '02 Rams, but I have an '03 with the NV4500. Will the short-shift kit fit an '03 with the NV4500 5-speed? Thanks!

Wow that is rare, If you are sure you have a NV4500 I would say go with P/N 1031050 because the 1031055 is definitly for the NV5600.

If it does not fit, I will just do a return for you.

Bringing up an old thread ... okay, here's the one for 03-04 (and I cannot find one listed anywhere for 05+)... why would this not fit an 05? Same transmission.. what's different about the years which would create a problem?

I can understand the dev cost to make one for the G56. However, it would seem as though that out of all the many trucks with this manual transmission, there'd be 200 sales throughout the market... are aftermarket sales really that insignificant?

03-04 short shift kit.. why will this not fit an 05?

Last month we sold a dozen kits at roughly $365.00 each. We estimated the cost of R&D and manufacturing the G56 short shifter at about $650.00, that would put the retail at about $750-$800. I honestly do not think we could sell 200 kits at that price especially with the economy were it is.

Then we have the problem with the R&D department being swamped with the new motors in the 6.4L Ford and 6.7L Dodge. We need to use our R&D time wisely and as many people are on this thread demanding the short shifter for the G56 there are about 100 times that demanding mods for the 6.7L and 6.4L Ford.

I can tell you what you want to hear or I can tell you the truth...
