BD Super B drive pressure

Hi Dave. With what's in my sig I'm right around 500 HP at a maximum indicated boost of 40 psi. What do you think my drive pressure will be and should I be concerned? Am I potentially operating outside of the Super B turbo's efficiency range? My EGT's can hit around 1450 after a 30 second WOT run, but are easily in check at lower throttle.

yes you are pushing the limits of the single a bit. you may be able to get away with adjusting the w/g to 45PSI to help aleve EGT's a bit but it may be time to look at that twin upgrade...

Dave

Dave would the BD special turbo suit the mods on my truck as well or would it be too laggy without larger injector nozzles? I also am putting a BD exhaust manifold on this coming weekend. Will that help with spool up and EGT's with the Super B turbo?

at the risk of sounding like I am side stepping your questions... only you can answer it

Where do you use... want or need your power?

I use the Super B Single because my truck is very light and I do not tow much so EGT's are not an issue and I retain I VERY quick spool up. If I spent a lot of time on the hwy working the truck hard and EGT's were my biggest concern I would run the Special. If I wanted to do both, I would add injectors and run twins.

The Special spools up nice considering how big it is and will not surge but the single will always be a bit quicker.

Hope that helps
Dave

Dave I noticed on your web-site that the BD tow twins upgrade comes with a BD pulse flow exhaust manifold, I/C boots, a cold air intake and all the hardware required to do the install. I already have the BD pulse flow exhaust manifold, BD I/C boots and a cold air intake. Is it possible to only purchase the second turbo along with the hardware required to do the install? If so what $ am I looking at?

That is no problem, I can sell the kit without the manifold, just deduct the retail price $495 off the price I quoted you. The boots that come with the twin upgrade kit are the ones needed for the piping, so are needed, the twin upgrade kit does not include the intercooler boots. The air intake that is included with kit is a different design to accommodate the twins install. I would recommend selling your current intake kit. I here the Cummins Forum is a good place to move take off performance items.

Why is the single not as good for towing? I heard it was better for towing. Compare the single to a stock 06 turbo if you would.

The Super B Single is great for towing because it will spool up as good, if not better than the stock turbo which improves drivability, it will also give you a lot more air flow to keep the EGT's down when towing with your Predators & Smarty jr. If you are over 425-450HP and are towing heavy you will start making too much heat with just the Super B Single, that is why we recommend a sets of twins when over 450HP.

When you are reading that the single is not good for towing, you are probably reading about our larger single, the Super B Special. Although this turbo is great for large amounts of air flow up 550HP it is larger so gives up some spool up time, which results in some lost drivability compared to the smaller Super B Single.

Both singles can be upgraded to BD Twins Turbo kits and we are developing a single turbo that is in between the Super B Single and Special but production is about 6 months away on that

The benefit the Super B Single has over the 06 stock turbo is efficiency (not size) meaning it will still respond fast but produce a denser charge of air. Unlike the stock one the compressor wheel is designed to rotate at a much faster RPM the reliability factor also goes way up!

An BD Cool-It Intercooler upgrade with the smaller single can also brdige the gap on EGT's instead of going with the larger Super B Special Turbo.

Hope this helps
