Bio Diesel (BD) questions and fuel filtering

Hi ladies and gentlemen. Allow me to introduce myself to you. I'm Arnie, kinda like Arnold Schwarty just I'm not from Austria, born in Alaska and raised in Canada. Proud to be associated with both countries and the Cummins Forum.

As you can see I'm a newbie but also a Cummins driver and Bio Diesel user. I want to begin a discussion with those that are interested in learning about BD and what we can learn together. I am not an expert just a family man that loves his God, wife, kids and a whole lot of other things in this life which includes BD and "the dodge".

We just brewed our first batch for 2009 (300 gallons 1200 litres) of BD two weeks ago and am currently running 97-99 % BD. Last night I changed the fuel filter as the truck was starving for fuel. My experience with diesel engines in general, is the ability to filter our fuel is more important than in gas engines. I have had several challenges with dirty fuel in the past and so one of my concerns is the fuel filtering process.

I found a double filter system yesterday at my neighbours and so one of the things I want to do is install an after market fuel filter system that has more capacity (as in number of litres filtered before the fuel filters clog up). I find that the factory system all though quite easy to change and easily accessible is not capable of filtering to the two micron stage that I would like to be at.

Here we are a the beginning and who knows where we will end up but please join in the journey. I welcome your comments and questions and look forward to where we are going. Cheers. Arnie

Welcome to CF ALP,

You are welcome to discuss Bio Diesel in our Forum but BD Diesel stands for Big Daddy Diesel, not Bio Diesel. You may get better results posting this in a different area of the forum though.

Cheers Dave

Fuel Issues Lift Pump?

I have called it the quarter tank syndrome. After coming to a stop or slow down with less than a quarter tank of fuel the truck goes into limp mode shuts off and then it takes a good twenty to thirty seconds of cranking before it fires up again. I believe this is the lift pump pulling air and not fuel. Has this happened to anybody else? AP

You may have to contact a moderator to have it relocated. I am not offended at all... in fact I do not mind if you want to keep the thread here, I just felt you may bet more replies in a bio diesel section. My knowledge of Bio Diesel is not what it should be so maybe I could learn with ya

Me too and I'm the one that is burning 92% Bio right now. Andrew the young fellow that I brew with is a BrewMaster with a diploma in Petro Chemical Technologist. He is absolutely amazing and that is why I am so confident burning our fuel. He practices what he preaches. Cheers, AP
