Sound proofing materials

I am used to working on older mercedes that have tons of sound deadening materials everywhere so I am planning to add dynamat to my cab to quiet it down just a bit.

Do the doors have any such material in them from the factory?

They have some small panels of some sort of deadening material on the inside of the outside door skin. I used Dynamat Extreme everywhere on the inside of my 08, both inside and outside skins of the doors, roof, back wall, floor, and then a denser felt over that on the floor. It made a huge difference in cabin noise. I have turbo back delete from H & S with no muffler.

Dynamat=, Go to a roofing supply store and ask for protecto seal. It is EXACTLY the same as dynamat but 1/25 the cost! I installed very high end systems for a while ( 15 years ) and came across this doing a radio swap in a roofers truck. Trust me it works. Try to clean with denatured alcohol to help adhession.

Awesome! I never understood how they charged so much for tar and aluminum foil in the first place.

I don't think Dynamat is tar.. It is not Asphalt. It is Butyl..

the roofing stuff is called peal and seal. Dont use it in your truck. its asphalt, It will melt in extreme heat (read, in your truck in the summer), and it puts off toxic gasses in your truck. Almost all newer sound deadening is butyl based, not asphalt

I used to manage a Car Audio shop for years, and this is what I put in my car... While we had dynomat at the shop, this stuff worked just as well, and DID NOT SMELL OR MELT. It's known at my roofing supply place as "Adhesive-backed Valley Flashing". It's about $60 for about 30', if I remember right... It still only cost me less than HALF of what MY COST of the dynomat was...
