I was quoted from a pretty high end paint shop around 6-7 grand. And they said that was a good deal.

lol...I have a thread up on Comp D about maaco. There are a lot of horror stories. But they say they are all independently owned. But hell, any thing is better than what the truck looks like now. I can deal with a truck loosing shine, but missing paint? I'll take maaco rather than no paint. We'll see though. I'll report back. Who knows, I may boycott them too!

Maaco is great if youre going to sell it but not if you want to be able to show it off. 6-7 grand is probably what most shops will charge. It is alot of truck to paint. The body shop I worked at wouldnt do a complete for under 8K. We worked on mostly higher end cars for rich people. and if you wanna change color and do it right (paint jams and under hood and all that stuff) its even more.

The best bang for the buck is doing it yourself. You can purchase the equipment, paint, and put in your own prep for far less. Don't ever do Maaco or Earl Scheib they are con artist companies that pay teenagers to scrub down your car with scotchbrite and repaint it, i doubt they have changed. Trust me on this me and my father worked for them as teenagers, if you want a cheap short lasting paint job this is where to get it. I wouldn't trust them with a paint job on a vehicle i hated. With so much valuable information on the net you can learn to do it yourself.

since you are painting it black and if you want it to look good the body will have to be perfect. dad uses ppg and it is good. also try matrix it is supposed to be the same thing. dad also starts at 1500 and goes up from there

I got a quote to paint mine from white to a metallic blue. The quote included painting all jams, under the hood, taking the bed completely off to get the entire cab and bed, and some body work. It came out to be a little over $5300. That was a very good price! Another shop I went to quoted me just under $10K for the same work. Just take your time looking for a good shop with a decent price, it will be worth it in the end.

I also recently had a shop install some cab lights (I didn't trust myself to drill the holes properly), but they put them in the wrong spot. I had them relocate them, and the body work to fix 6 holes was anywhere from $350 (Maaco) to $2500 ...like I said, just take your time looking for a good/decent priced shop.
