heavy scratches

i have some fairly heavy scratches on my truck and was wondering whats the best rubbing compound to use. it will have to be some pretty heavy grade.

it all depends on how "heavy" your scratches are......there is a huge difference between what us body techs and customers call "heavy scratches". If it isnt scratched through the clearcoat then sometimes you can get them out with some medium compound and a rotary buffer....and some you have to wetsand down a little with some 2000 grit sandpaper then buff. If you take your fingernail and rub it across the scratch it will give you a good idea on how deep it is. anything that will stop your fingernail or catch it is usally too deep and through the clearcoat.

if it doesn't catch your nail get a compound from norton called liquid ice. stuff works great.
