removing chrome off grille

Ok so Im wanting to paint my grille. hate chrome. So is there anyway of removing the chrome off of the grille? or would it stick if I just got a good primer over it and then painted it?

I sanded mine to scuff it up as much as I could, primed it, and painted it black. Had it on the truck for about a year and the paint across the top started to fade, but it hadn't chipped any. I ended up getting an aftermarket one off Ebay though.

same a volcom....i sanded the sh!t out of mine and even used a adhesion promoter for chrome some paint guy recomended....looked great for about a year...then started to fade and lightly flake at the top where it meets the hood where the sun bakes it....other than that i didnt have any pealing or any chips.....just fading because when they say paint doesnt stick....they mean it....just turned my SLT into a sport and this go-around i went to my dealer and they let me swap out my chrome grille for a black plastic ST grille.

I have heard you can use Muriatic acid to remove the chrome and use adhesion promoter with paint.
I am about to try this with mine.
