headlight restoration

I just bought some headlights off another forum and the outside of the lenses are real foggy. Any tips or tricks?

Wolfgang has a pretty descent kit you can buy and use with a drill or a buffer. Check it out on Autogeek.com

Or you can use similar pads that come with their kits and others along with cutting and polishing chemicals

If the lights are really bad you may need to wet sand a bit. use 1500+

If you do wet sand make sure that the process/chemicals you are going to use can remove the fine grit lines you are going to leave with sanding. If you are using a drill or buffer, do NOOOOOOOT crank up the speed thinking you are just going to knock it out faster, you can burn/melt the lens. Whenever you get them looking good again, put a good sealant on them so they last. Once or Twice a year reapply the sealant to help, too.

Good luck, and post pictures.

What bout the 3m kit? That's what the guy who sold me the lights recommended.

only thing i have heard about the 3m kit, is that it dusts a lot. I am sure its a pretty descent kit though. But I haven't heard too much about it.

Most "kits" should be ok to use. if you just wanted to use a cutting compound and a polishing compound you should be good, too.

I'm always trying knew things anyways.

The guy offered me a refund if i'm not satisfied. For what I payed him plus the cost of the restoration kit I can buy new ones or at least have mine done profesionally. i'm going to see if anyone's intersted in them before i go for the refund.

I used to work at a detail shop and we would restore headlights. We used a meguires buffing compound and steel wool. Although, I don't think I would recommend this because now that I think of it, I think it would scratch the heck out of these clear lenses. Sorry for my insignificant ramblings. Just trying to think of a way to help you out.

The ad application (AdSense, etc) is looking for keywords in the thread and places appropriate ads around.
