Arizona law on smoke?

Anybody here have any experience with the Arizona law on smoke?

California law allows a groovy ten seconds of any opacity, and it's only a $100 fix-it ticket otherwise.

Arizona law, from what I see, is a lot more vague.

Arizona Revised Statutes

So Arizona doesn't bother to define time limits, altitude limits, or opacity limits... We just can't make "excessive" smoke, lest it's "at least" $100.

Anybody have any experience with smoke tickets? Are they even fixable tickets here??

i would like to get some clarification as well...about a month ago a car was tailgating me so i laid down a cloud and turns out it was an undercover cop...when the smoke cleared he was still there and he was calling in my plate (or so im guessing)...i turned at the first street i found and he turned with me but i kept going around in circles around the neighborhood and he finally left...id say that law leaves a lot to the cops descression (spelling?) so it might just depend on how they feel that day.

Pretty much is all about the person, or police officer that see's it, and what type of mood there in. I lived in Tucson/Vail area for the better part of 21 years, and in that time, that's what I was witness to. It used to be that another person driving down the road (civilian) could report your vehicle for excessive emissions if it did smoke for longer than 10 seconds. But I am pretty sure the actual law in writing is wide open, and it is not clarical enough. I got harassed for years about excessive noise, liscense plate lights being out, and the good old tire tread check by DPS. Almost always beat them if I just went to court, the officer almost always didn't show up.
I suppose it didn't help that I used to get alot of minor consuming tickets either THe sheriffs department really liked me!!!

Ive been pulled over in Tucson half a dozen times or so, they run the plates, and ask if its a diesel, and then I go on my merry way. Theres not really anything they can do. I was pulled over by the U of A and the cop told me my muffler was not in working order and my truck was smoking, I just chuckled.

The way that the ordinance is written is "They understand that diesels smoke under accleration and heavy load, but should not smoke when crusing speed is reached"

Ive layed down some big time smoke when people wont let me over, but then again I had to acclerate to get over.
