For Diesels it is simply an emissions opacity test. You want to smoke as little as possible during this test. Return to stock programming, and you should be fine.

I've also heard of guys running Bio for the emissions test. The opacity requirements are different based on the age of the truck if I'm not mistaken. I could be wrong. The requirement for me was 25% and on stock programming I think I hit 4%, way under the limit.

Once every five years? I think you meant for the first 5 years of your vehicle's life, you won't have to test for emissions. Two more years, and you'll be bringin' it on in for the test wheee LOL

Here's info straight from ADEQ

And starting this year, registrants in Pima County will only have to get emissions tested every other year yeehaw!

Yeah Arizonacowgirl is right, new vehicles get tested for the 1st time at the end of 5yrs after that its once a year. But I think you can buy two year tags for alot of vehicles so it could be every other year also.

Thank you every one for replying to my thread. I have a few more things to ask if you all dont mind. So sence my truck is a 95, I will have to smog it when I get to phx and then once every year. Is that correct? also are they going to be looking for factory parts, such as exh. manifold, air intakes and so on? I also run a stack is that going to be a problem. Sorry for all the questions I would just like to know what I have to do now so I can prepare for when I get there.

This is how it played out for me:

I got my turn, and stayed in the truck. There was a computer monitor that I had to watch, floor it, let the rev limiter hit, and the computer tells you to stop. I think I did that 3 times. They didn't seem to look for cats or mufflers (I was watching closely). Then I pulled up to where you pay, they did the gas cap test, I paid and left.

I wouldn't think that stacks would be an issue, but I'm speaking from experience.

The only thing they do different if you have stacks, at some stations they dont have you pull all the way into the bay so the truck exhaust is out side the building, since the hose wouldnt be going on the stack. You dont have to worry about stacks or a muffler. Newer truck 2004+ have to worry about a cat but no one really looks for one, And to be honest Alot of people who work at these places have no idea what there doing or or what to look for. In AZ its very hard for a diesel to fail these test so you really dont have anything to worry about.
