Need help with Lube change

I just bought my filters from Genos and now looking for Synthetic oil (Valvoline Blue). I plan on doing these myself but curious to know how many gallons will I need for a 07 5.9L? Also how many miles can I run before I need to change the oil again once going to Val synthetic?

According to the owners manual it holds 12qts with filter. As far as miles that will vary. The best thing to do is run a oil analysis to see how your oil is doing. It will tell you how your additive package is holding up. I use Rotella synthetic 5w40 and change every year which amounts to 10,000 miles and had a TBN of 9.3 I'm sure I could go longer.

Just reading their website. Am I missing something? I don't see them using the word synthetic on their pages about this oil.
As a matter of fact, from the premium blue overview page, they say this:
Unique dispersive polymer technology (DPT),with premium Group II baseoil

I'll give it marks for a decent TBN. At least it sounds like they have a good additive package.

Edited out most due to fact I was looking at wrong product. I really was missing something.

Premium Blue Extreme is the synthetic.

All Valvoline diesel oils were a joint venture with cummins in developing their oils. So I would say if any oil was a cummins specific oil it would be valvoline. Are there just as good other oils, YES, like anything in production today.

3 gallons, or 12 quarts.

The only real way to know how long you can extend oil changes is with oil analysis. Don't matter if it's conventional or synthetic oil.

Ah. Excellent. Thanks.
I knew I was missing something last night.... I was tired.

Not much from their website or MSDS to go on.
They say full synthetics, but that can also mean group III.

Perhaps this is the best info:
DISTILLATES (PETROLEUM),
SOLVENT-DEWAXED HEAVY PA

This is true with Valvoline ATF+4 too. Has Chrysler logo on it.

FYI most off the shelf synthetic oils are made from highly refined Group III crude oil that can be legally called synthetic, this included Mopar ATF+4 that is not 100% synthetic. If you want 100% synthetic oil you will need to use Redline, Amsoil or Royal Purple as they are made from either group IV, group V (or a combo of both) man made base stock.
