Bio Diesel

Do we have any Bio users in here?
I am fixin to get into this and I am still a virgin in this area. So far, I have 2 resturants that I have commited to me for thier grease. And I know i can get more. I do not know of anybody else in this small community that is doing Bio. I have My 55 gal. drum of methenal and several clean containers. lye is readily available in this area. I know the basics, but i am concerned about a few things.

So lets hear from you if you are interested or if you are a veteran. I am interested in your opinions, processor blueprints, and expecially your recipes.

I am hopin there is alot of Bio users in here....maybe we talk someone into hookin us up with our own BioDiesel section?????? If not, let this thread become a memory.

BTW...I could give a rats A$$ about the enviroment and global warming I am in gettin into it because I am sick of payin $2.50-3.00 per gallon.

So who's with me!!!???

I've been burning B20 except in the winter for several years.
Was involved with BD research for about ten of it's early years. Know quite a bit about it and would be happy to answer any questions.

BD was never really intended to be run at over a 20% concentration due to economics and performance problems, but if you're making it yourself 100% works great in a 12 valve.

If you're building your own processor, this is the way to go.

Supporting American farmers instead of ragheads is reason enough for me to use BD even if it costs more.

Bill I would like to know more but I have no clue where to start as I have never read too much about it, I do think that with the given economics for the farmers the alternative fuels have a possible fix for our nation, I dont think fossil fuels will be here forever so we must do something about it. I read the other day that at the current rate of growth in China they will be consuming the same amount of energy ten years from now as the world is currently using.................scarry man

I Really appreciate the reply Bill. I am leaning towards the appleseed processor too. My goal is to run B20-B30 in the winter, but in summer in Az, I would like to get away with B90-B100 depending on how she runs. My P7100 and DB2 pumps should like the stuff ok.

Ive made a few test batches with the Drpepper method, and It turned out great because I had a formula. My concern is with the larger quanitys, I am unaware of how much Meth and lye to mix. Will those acid test strips be what I need? Or is there a easier way? I guess I need to finish my processor first, then maybe play with the stuff. My other area I am not quite understanding is the washing step. Whats the best way to wash it? Or do I need to wash it? Thanks for the hints and help, and I will keep this thread posted with what I learn. Thanks.

AZ, you will find it's all a learning curve. You can use test strips at first but after a little experience will be able to "eyeball" it.
By far the easiest way to clean your BD is to let it sit and only draw off fuel from the top two thirds of the drum. Having a drain valve at the bottom of your storage drum will allow you to drain off the scum that accumulates at the bottom of the barrel.

One thing I caution folks on before getting into making your own BD is to make sure you have a source of waste veggie oil that isn't going to dry up on you. The new money making scam in my area is for folks to contract all the oil sources they can in the area then sell the oil to a commercial BD plant. This makes it difficult for someone just making their own fuel to find and keep an oil source. I expect this to continue to the point that the only way to get waste oil is to pay for it.

Extended reading times. I hate shopping with my wife cuz she takes forever...plus she whacks me on the head when we go by the womens underwear section.

The crapper is the other time when I do a lot of reading.

These are my only two reading oppertunitys......

Gosh Kevin, why the crap do I havta explain this to you?
