Poor mans propane setup, help needed

I'm going to start building a poor mans propane setup tomorrow. Or at least start gathering parts.

My plan is to modify the stock intake horn. Drill and tap it for a Hobbs switch. I need to know a part number for something that is normally open, then closes at 5psi. Anyone know what I need? I've found a part number from napa for a "universal marine oil pressure switch" that has three prongs and switches at 6psi. I assume that means it can do either with the three prongs. (one leg turns on, one off)

Anyhow, I'm also going to run to the propane dealer in town and see about an adjustable propane regulator. I'll want something adjustable in the 5-15psi range. I'm going to install a OPD fitting for a normal BBQ tank to the pressue regulator then a solenoid that will be triggered off the hobbs switch. Then run the rest up to the intake horn. I'm thinking I'll drill and tap the intake horn to take a compression fitting. I'll take a small section of copper tubing crimp the end and drill several holes in it to create a fogger.

I'm NOT looking for power. I just want to suplement diesel in my setup.

I'm also thinking about installing a HHO generator at the turbo. Although I don't like the idea of hydrogen being pumped through the turbo and intercooler.

Anyone have any advice or suggestions?

I've also got to build my WVO setup too...

What about a heat exchanger to help vaporize the propane before it enters the intake? I thought about just a simple pipe in pipe setup with coolant passing.

I work at napa and have looked at that same OP switch for a water meth setup. Good luck on doing this and keep posted picturs. I'd agree about ditching the plan to save on some fuel though do it for the power. Just bite the bullet like I did and drive around a 1991 HONDA CIVIC 4 DR WITH A 1.1LITER 4 BANGER, 5SPD, BABY BLUE AND RUST, with mold in the AC........but it gets 40mpg baby! I take the truck out at night and on the weekends.

Run 3psi or so constant of propane after the intake box, "before the turbo" and put on a 12 volt shut off valve. If you search on the forum you can find links to different setups.

Your on the right track. Just order a real Hobbs switch and use that as your on/off switch set to around 2psi. Dont inject the propane into the intake horn, inject it in the air box before the turbo. It will already be a gas so dont worry about that. For a regulator, go to the local welding supply house and buy an Acetylene regulator. Adjustable from 0-15psi and has gauges for bottle pressure and flow pressure.

Forget about the HHO setup, the only people who see any results are the one's selling the units.

Hobbs switch.

Solenoid Valve.
Can someone explain this setup to me? So you have your propane bottle in the bed or maybe mounted under the bed. Then you have the Acetylene regulator on the tank regulating the pressure out. The hobs switch is hooked up to boost pressure and is set to turn on the seliniod valve a 2psi of boost (which allows the propane to flow)

Is that right? Some questions, where do you tap into boost pressure if you have a stock intake? And what do you use as a tip inside the air box to spray the propane?

Can you spray 1 psi of propane just for a MPG enhancer?

Dead serious, and I'm not going to do bio. I don't have the time.

I am going to do WVO later on once I find a tank.

I only use the truck when I need it. I already commute on a 2004 Suzuki V-strom 650. 50mpg.

I simply want to get the best mileage/cost per mile out of the truck.

Thats it! Yes, most people do these setups for MPG not HP. Most people see good MPG gains with between 1.5 and 4psi of propane. Each truck is different though thats why the regulators are adjustable.
