This has got me thinking, one of trying it on my dodge and two of trying it on my western star, now you say that you can't inject propane unless you have boost, but what about rigs with exhaust brakes? Both my dodge and my Star have an exhause brake and while I have no guage on the dodge I know the Star regularly sees 5-8 psi boost while jaking, which if I read correctly would trigger it to inject propane. Now I've been thinking about this and have come up with a couple of possible solutions, one is to put a two way switch between the jake and the propane setup, so that only one can receive power at a time, or to install a relay powered by the jake wire to open the circuit when it is hot. Now that said, do you think the propane will actually have a negative affect while exhaust braking or am I over thinking this?

Nope, still have mine, no problems, great mileage and power. Just haven't a clue about the brake thing.

I thought a brake was a butterfly that closed on the exhaust side causing backpressure? How would it cause boost?

All of my bikes (I ride bikes as my main mean of transport) get 45+ mpg.

Making progress on the samurai, that'll get me about 30mpg on diesel. (WVO) I'm getting tired of riding so I need something to drive on four for a while. (I ride about 30K a year on a bike)

Edit: There's nothing wrong with trying to get better mileage out of a "toy" either. :

Like I said I'm not sure if the dodge does, I know the star will make boost while jaking, but the mechanics are not the same, I believe but am not sure that jacobs brakes cause a delay in the exhaust valves opening, perhaps holding back pressure on the intake side, aswell my star doesn't have a waste gate, so that might contribute, I will have to put a boost guage on the dodge and experiment. I'm going to follow your wvo thread aswell, I have access to 2000 litres of new canola oil that was supposed to be used to lubricate instrumentation in the local oil patch, the company that bought it was going to dispose of it, so our driver claimed it and now it's mine.

Might wanna look into biodiesel. It looks like you've got a 2nd gen. If you've got a VP44/24V, they don't take to well to a WVO setup. If you've got an older 12V P pump, you're in luck!

Actually was thinking propane for the dodge and wvo for the tank truck, it's a 3406 B mechanical caterpillar, I'm told that they fare well with wvo,

I don't know if that makes a difference or not to your VP44, but you don't have WVO.

Carry on.

Makes no difference. Viscosity is the issue.

Today I might have found a happy median though. 50/50 JetA and WVO with the ball valves for heat 1/2 way open.

just did install home built kit from ebay parts and ace hardware. Just filled up full take diesel and 5 gal propane from Walmart. Normally get 18mpg cruising at 66-69 and about 10% city driving. I'll post some result next fill up. in about a week.

35 miles one way to work all highway this morning. The LOM(lieometer) reads 26mpg@69mph, 28mpg@65mph, 30mpg@64mph, and 32mpg@62, and all reading are done when driving flat and no change in load/boost while pressing the "rest" button on the LOM to read the giving instant ave mpg. My spec: 05 qc auto 3.73 w/35", stock intake with k&n filter, cat and muffler cut off and replace with straight muffler from local muffler shop. I have an Edge used as gauges only, and Smarty set on #4. Im averaging 18mpg before the propane, if i run the tank dry i would get 18x34gal.=612 miles. With propane almost same as diesel per gallon, and a 5 gal. lp is added to the equation i would have 39gallons and the truck have to yield 18x39=702miles dry to make it even, anything yielding more than 702 miles is positive gain in milage.
